+1. I also wonder if any of the people here saying Rapinoe doesn’t belong out there anymore have ever played a team sport in any meaningful way. |
Christian Pulisic isn't getting rich off what FIFA "pays" him for international play. In fact, I don't think they're paying him anything at all. He became the most expensive US player ever (transfer fee: $73 million, which is probably more than the entire USWNT is worth) because of his club play for Dortmund and because Chelsea has a fan base big enough to support that kind of money for a single player. I think you mean US Soccer, not FIFA. But even then, facts are facts. Male players make more money internationally because the men's game is vastly more popular. And the constant politicization of the women's game by Rapinoe, her teammates and their fangirls likely will make that divide even worse. Go ahead and celebrate in your little bubble, but keep in mind that half of this country knows that the USWNT's behavior has made a mockery of the "One Nation, One Team" slogan and will react accordingly. I disagree. The more our girls see that anything is possible the more they will refuse to accept all of the naysaying which is unfortunately evident in this forum. |
The game is already strong here. "Our girls" don't need to see that anything is possible. They already know our women's team is great. What "all girls" need is a strong, vibrant and healthy women's game world wide. Having more than just America in the finals for more than a decade will actually do more to promote the game than our dominance will. Girls in France, England, Spain, Italy want their own heroes too. |
I realize you desperately want this to be true. However, it is not. The heavyweight sponsors who only do what make them the most money are evidence of this. |
Indeed! |

I thought they played great as a team!
Good crews are good blends of personalities: someone to lead the charge, someone to hold something in reserve; someone to pick a fight, someone to make peace; someone to think things through, someone to charge ahead without thinking. ~ Daniel James Brown, The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics |
Really? Then what are they (and you) whining about? They're already getting paid.
I'd love to stay and argue, but I'm busy watching the "meaningless" Copa America final, because I want to see what happens when a group of players actually lives the "One Nation, One Team" slogan and unites their country behind them instead of just mouthing the words as a marketing slogan while making a mockery of them in reality. |
I actually felt plenty of times through the tournament that Morgan was playing hurt and could have used more of a break. She did however get stuck in every single game, drew the foul for the first and set up the second vs France, and sent us through with a class header vs England. Her off the ball run set up the space for Lavelle to take on the CB and get off the shot in our second goal today. You keep a striker around for those contributions. I also wonder if Press would thrive playing as a 9. |
| It is crazy to me how the delicate flowers who don't like Rapinoe will supposedly "not care" about the USWNT because they can't handle political speech from one of them. Personally, I am and always have been thrilled when any US athletes win at the global level, regardless of politics. Goes to their petty character, I guess. I'm embarrassed for them. |
Could you be any more of a snowflake? My God, how embarrassing. |
For real. Wah, wah, wah indeed. |
FIFA doesn't pay players.

| I’ll star this by saying I’m old. Old enough to remember Title 9 being passed and girls soccer starting. I played on a FCPS HS team that was a trial, and became a Varsity sport my junior year. I had no option to play past then. I grew up and away from the game but always loved what it gave me - the confidence to compete and the reason to move. I’ve married and had boys who have played other sports. I’ve watched women’s soccer develop over the years. Watching this game today was amazing. Rapinoe may be polarizing, but I remember when she wouldn’t have had a voice. I give her mad respect and think whether or not she should have been playing, she sparked this team and was a big part of why they won. Can’t wait to see what the team, and esp Rose Lavelle, does next. Congrats! |
Siri. It’s like you read my mind. Dunn is just incredible. and she’s 5 ft tall! She was phenomenal. |
