Is Gilead brass really not savvy enough to have true believers imbedded as Martha spies? They congregate alone way too much to be trusted.

All the highly educated women with high level jobs formerly would have been sent to the colonies. No way would they have been left to form alliances and foment trouble under this tyrannical patriarchy. That part is not realistic.

A woman doesn’t have to have a high level job to gain skills that would make her able to organize a rebellion. Women and minority men often learn how to do this work at the grassroots.

Good point, but women with STEM training in particular have the skills to build explosives etc. I'm now remembering one of the women June picked to Martha was a thief. So a combo of useful skills essential and true that organizing requires no particular education level.

As Cmdr Lawrence likes to say, “we didn’t think of that.”

Good episode, even if it was still a little slow.

I think Serena is stone cold setting Fred up.

June gets her mojo back and kind of saves everyone.

Muffins! Praise be!

Called it and I was literally fist-pumping during that scene. Woo hoo! I'm going to have to watch the scene again to see if Fred realized at the last minute that Serena set him up.

I wonder if the Canadians have been falsely signaling cooperation. I mean, rendition of one of Gilead's commanders is not exactly keeping things civil.

I don't think Fred realized Serena set him up, he continued to be protective toward her. In his weak, pathetic way he did love her.

The Canadians can easily spin this, given that the Waterfords came to them of their own free will (a betrayal of Gilead).

That’s what always stood out to me. In his own weak, pathetic way he does love strong women (remember back in season 1 he enjoyed playing scrabble with June). He loved the strong Serena - like he even said he didn’t realize how much she would lose.

Will Canada willingly give Nichole to Serena? They must realize she too had a hand in creating Gilead. Could this also be a setup for Serena?

I don’t see how Canada could give Nichole to Serena - she has no biological connection to the child. And she held down the birth mother while her husband raised her. The only plausible way Nichole goes to Serena is if Luke let’s her.

I was wondering that too. If rape is a crime and slavery is a crime, then holding down someone else while they are raped, or living in a home where slaves are held is also presumably a crime, isn't it?

Yeah, no way, but *possibly* visitation of some sort especially if she provides info that helps them get June out etc. I hope she did this because she truly loves Nichole and wants her to be safe.

Why is everyone sure that Serena set Fred up? I just watched and didn’t get that impression.

Because I don’t think she’s that stupid.

Legally Luke is the father as he and June are still married.

Look at the previews for Episode 12, it's pretty clear that Serena set Fred up. Also, they never read any rights to Serena, only Fred.

Serena better not get off with all the crap she pulled. I'm still remembering what a horrid person Serena was in Season 1 when she beat June up for having a miscarriage. No way should baby Nicole/Holly go to Serena. I still remember her forcing Nick and June to sleep together (in front of her) so she could have a baby because she knew Fred was incapable. And heck, she along with Fred helped create the world that is Gilead. No way should she get a happy life in Canada!
