Because of her guilty expressions on the trip. When she and Fred are talking about how it could have been he jokes that she would have left him for a man who could give her a child (check!) When Fred asks her if she trusts the dude she says “yes” with a pained expression (because she trusts him to follow through on the deal they made fir Fred to get arrested). And when they are following dude for so long it is obvious they are driving to Canada, she says nothing. Total set up.

Fred also said she suggested they go alone.

Look at the previews for Episode 12, it's pretty clear that Serena set Fred up. Also, they never read any rights to Serena, only Fred.

Serena better not get off with all the crap she pulled. I'm still remembering what a horrid person Serena was in Season 1 when she beat June up for having a miscarriage. No way should baby Nicole/Holly go to Serena. I still remember her forcing Nick and June to sleep together (in front of her) so she could have a baby because she knew Fred was incapable. And heck, she along with Fred helped create the world that is Gilead. No way should she get a happy life in Canada!

I agree, but she brought them something really valuable. Fred can tell them how Gilead is structured. It’s the deal June tried to make but then they didn’t think they could trust Nick.

Serena may not get Nicole but initially they offered her a chance to have her own bio baby with the new technology and a donor. I hope she rots but she might get that.

Because the authorities didn’t appear to actually arrest Serena, only Fred. She had the satellite phone to arrange Fred’s arrest with Mark; it will be interesting to find out what terms she agreed to in order to hand him over (assuming that’s what happened).

YES I’m so glad I didn’t give up before this episode.

Fred is such a chump the whole thing was amazing. When she showed him the phone I wondered if she was “delivering” him but they played it so straight I wasn’t sure until the “just ahead” thing.

Christopher Meloni is amazing. I think it’s very difficult for an actor to make a character who has such a thin story and no redeeming qualities as three dimensional as he made that guy. Just superb acting. I read it the whole time as he is gay and trying to cover it up and I’m not even sure but even when he said “but my children” you could really believe it, like this guy is going to go down having never looked himself in the mirror. Amazing.

The Marthas. THE MARTHAS. That cleaning scene was great TV. Idk what was happening for the last few episodes but I am in again.

I agree that the cleaning scene was the best of the entire series.

RIP Commander Stabler. I wish we had more time.

As soon as June kicked Stabler I knew she’d have to kill him. I’m glad he escalated the situation after the kick because he would have found a way to have her executed if they had both walked out of that room.

The pen was an interesting choice of (unrealistic) weapon, and clearly it was deliberately chosen to represent her lost rights (to read and write, for example). That part was a bit heavy handed IMO.

Was that the season finale?

When Serena was either in the car or being led to the car while Fred was being arrested, I could have sworn she smirked for a brief millisecond.

Because she ignored his concern about how far they were going

Because she looked far more guilty than scared

Because we believe the drummer who predicted it

And because we want to believe in her.

I think people are reading way too much into the pen. It was an available object.

My husband laughed out loud at "But my children!" Like, dude, you just dialed her up to 11.
