yeah, but the clubs and move them to outside of the public schools. last time our 10% funds went to computers for Wheaton they all got stolen for parts. now we have to go in and help the school with our donations and good they buy. |
somewhere a communist is clapping and saying Bravo PP. |
How does each school suddenly add 100s of bussed-in poor students? How do they physically make room in already over-capacitated schools to fit more people in? |
Tell that to the smart Hispanic or smart black child who is bullied and made fun of for even taking those classes. Bad influences are in full effect in middle and high school. |
How far away is the school from you house? in terms of minutes (rush hour) and miles. |
We are not American and did not live here until the 2000s. Why should my children suffer because of some mortgage loan assignment value from over 70 years ago. Yeah, lenders didn't want to loan at low rates to poor neighborhoods. We all saw that enlightenment play out in 2008. |
Good point, what do Chinese parents, schools or government do with kids who score 40% proficient in Chinese or math year after year? |

MCPS is still the best in the area and one of the bests in the nation Leads the nation in AP passing scores. All groups in MCPS do better than anywhere else. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/press/index.aspx?pagetype=showrelease&id=8161&type=archive&startYear=2017&pageNumber=3&mode= More MCPS leading. .. https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/schools/mcps-takes-first-place-in-ranking-on-college-preparedness-stem-career-readiness/ For "high performing " students, there is no better place than MCPS. 15 of MD 20 Regeneron scholars this year are from MCPS and one MCPS school lead the whole nation https://student.societyforscience.org/regeneron-sts-2019-scholars As you can see, I posted FACTS not anecdotes or delusions. I know private parents, NoVa parents and the other wannabes don't want hear them but these are facts, real world facts not DCUM delusions |

OMG - MCPS isn't even the best in MD. Its halfway down the list of MD counties now. Howard and Frederick surpassed it years ago.
MCPS hit its peak in the early 2000s and has been sliding down ever since due to bad decisions and a changing demographic. There really is zero reason to move to MoCo for the schools. If you have a job in MoCo and its an easier commute then sure move here and deal with the so so schools or pay for private. Other than that, there is just no reason to move here other than its cheaper than areas in VA and DC now (which wasn't true until the past few years). |
The proposed option isn't going from NW to Seneca Valley. Starting point should be Darnestown Elem (which feeds into NW) to Seneca Valley. Current bus ride for them is 45 min going to NW. Now add the additional time to get to SVHS. |
|
Agree and Darnestown really should be going to QO. Darnestown ES is literally right down the road from QO but kids are bussed past QO and up to NW instead. I guess the thinking is that since they have already been sacrificed why not send them even farther past QO and NW. Diamond ES and Brown Station is another diversity move. Diamond is closer to QO than Brown Station but Brown Station is bussed through the Diamond boundaries to get to QO while Diamond is sent over to NW. Brown Station keeps QO from being too wealthy and Diamond adds some wealthy families to NW.
It doesn't work. Parents hate it. Kids get sent to schools further away for longer bus rides and end up being from geographic islands. It has not created any utopia at all. There are racial incidents at QO, some parents resent the BS kids and the BS kids tend to get left out. The BS kids are not performing any better than low income kids at any other MCPS school. Darnestown sends so few kids to NW that it does nothing for adding wealthy kids into the mix. Because of the zoning most kids at Darnestown go to private for high school, file COSAs or even lie about their residency. Sending Darnestown to Seneca Valley will just push out the few kids who were willing to go to NW. |
DP, but you two are absurd. There's more to thriving than being the best compared to others. If my kid is emotionally secure, engaged, curious, kind, forms solid peer relationships, etc., that's thriving. This obsession with competition at the *elementary* level is incredibly damaging. There are also objective measures of performance, which indicate, that, yes, kids from schools with high FARMS rates can be performing on par with kids from wealthier schools. The horror! |
You can't possibly be serious. The news about the performing arts magnet is very new and there are plenty of W parents still freaking out. Maybe not on this thread, but go read the one on the Real Estate forum. What's that up to, 90 pages? Also, the decision that Woodward wouldn't be open until 2025 was literally just made last week. The facts simply don't bear out your assertions. |
So what your saying is that blacks and Hispanics can't learn together? They need to be shipped out? So the Community can't make education a priority so the entire school district has to be upended? This is not a low income/high income problem. It is a problem because parents and leaders in these communities aren't demanding the education is important. |
