This Is Us -- Season 2

No, I think a majority of people would agree that for this show, acting & writing, it’s
Randal >> Kevin >>>> Kate.

The goodbye between Randall and Deja made me teary eyed. Heck, this show often makes me teary eyed. Glad Kevin didn't kill or maim himself or Tess. I'm rooting for him to get the help he desperately needs.

Ha. So I get Rebecca there!

maybe its just me but if i ever ran across a lady or man for that matter in a grocery store w/3 infants, i'm handing over the damn onions. probably even buying her groceries

Kate's mom wasn't relaying the story because of ppd or because she was tired having infants - it was because she LOST A BABY!!! Do you honestly think she's going to share an experience about how tough it is being a new mom to someone who just miscarried and lost a baby? seriously, think about that.

This is a very good point.

My prediction: Jack dies in a house fire caused by an electrical issue. He got everyone out but Kate made him go back in to get the dog. And he dies.

i just have to say it again after the last episode - I LOVE Beth. I really, really do. She is so damn smart and funny and beautiful, really beautiful. I want to be more like her. Shes a great mom and great wife and yet so not holier-than-thou perfect. Just frickin awesome.

And, Im white but totally dug the whole Howard scenario. The minute the commercials foreshadowed that Randall liked a school other than Harvard - I knew it was gong to be Howard. I work with a bunch of folks who went to Howard and they are some of the most impressive folks I know.

Watching young Randall's face when the Howard students said they too went to all-white schools was incredible. Its amazing when it begins to dawn on him that there are other people who had some experiences to him. He is finding his way, finding where he fits, finding his "people". Something I think most of us can relate to at sometime in our own lives. Amazing.

Jack handles being left out so well too and the interaction between Jack and Randall on the drive home was gold. Randall explaining that the way Jack felt when he, Randall, hesitated to introduce him as his dad, was how Randall always feels. Wow. Really powerful.

And the stuff with Deja --- so good.

I think Randall has fewer flaws as a person -- Kate IS a bit victim-y, and Kevin has lived a very narcissistic life, but part of any good movie or show is the complex, not-all-good-or-bad characters. Sometimes I think both Randall and William are less interesting because they are so "good." I mean, if I had to marry one of the Big Three, Randall, hands down, right? But a good show/movie needs flawed and complicated people to make it interesting.

+1

Fwiw, I actually find Kevin to be the most interesting character this season (which is a bit of a surprise as I found him to be the least interesting for much of the first season).

Exactly. Rebecca didn't loose it in the grocery store because she was struggling with caring for 3 babies (though that probably didn't help...), she lost it because she was struggling with the grief she felt over Kyle's death!

She seems emotionally stunted and while Kevin blames himself for everything wrong in his life, Kate blames her mom or everyone else for everything wrong in her life. She has not ability to take responsibility for HER choices. Get therapy and get over it.
I can't tell if the writers are trying to get everyone to hate Kate's charecter or if they really have no clue how whiny and annoying they are making her. Too bad because I was excited to see her character have some depth and deal with her weight. Hell, she doesn't even have a job right now.

I think you're missing the bigger picture. She is so heavy BECAUSE she is emotionally stunted and can't deal with even the little things in life and is angry about it and hating life because of it. As a result, she turns to food to escape or to hide or to try and not deal with life. I love the way they are portraying her because they are showing how real (and emotional) her eating disorder is - it's not about eating just to eat. It's about eating because you can't handle life, and are angry about it.

+1!

And anyone who thinks getting over a serious, decades long eating disorder (& the emotional trauma that feeds into it) is as simple as getting therapy & getting "over it" probably has some maturity issues (or, at the very least, empathy issues) him or herself.

Do we know if Rebecca ever worked after jacks death? How did she live with no income and 3 teens. They couldn't have had that much life insurance. Did her parents die and leave money?

I keep reading that Tess said "I hate this house" before hiding in Kevin's car. When did she say that? I don't remember it.

She said it in the car when she popped up from hiding.

definitely a fired due to electrical issues. They have been playing up the electrical issues a LOT the past few episodes.
