Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Me too. I carry my weight in my stomach/boobs. I got an ugly looking varicose vein on the back of my knee when I was pregnant with my first so shorts have been out for me for a while. Now I'm dealing with 50 year old cellulite...trust me, capris are a blessing. My ankles and calves are still show worthy for now.

I'm mid-forties and short. Capris evoke the look I'm trying to convey: FUCK off I've got 3 kids, I'm busy, my ankles are hot, my knees are ugly.
They are utility wear. No one wears capris to look cute.

I am older, wiser... and now live in an area where women are too fashionable for capris.

Happy 5 year anniversary, ye olde Capri thread!

I'm going to go order some right now, in celebration of the mid-calf!

I have to confess that I bought a pair after reading this thread. I love them.

And we love you! Fellow capri wearers all. Where do you recommend we shop for them?
Does anybody have a coupon code?

OMG! Please tell me this is a made up thing. It takes the capris controversy to a whole new level.

Well, you are definitely older

What do we think about the Capri-length flare leg pants? My take = even worse than classic Capris.

+1000, agree. But then again I think I started a thread re: What new horror - the ankle length flare. So clearly we see eye to eye!

Though I also agree with:

That's exactly what capris are: utility wear. If it is clear you are not wearing them as a "fashion" statement, i.e. lugging home groceries, running after kids in the playground, I think they look fine.

What does OP want fat women to wear? Surely not shorts.

OMG! trust me no one wants to see middle aged side boobs, back fat, varicose veins, and bulky thighs in a sun dress. Its for the 20s.

Since this thread is 5 years old, some of these women have aged into capris.

If you are working out every day and your legs are rock solid you can probably get away with wearing shorts. But if you are telling yourself that you still have the legs of a 20 year old and are not working out - you are kidding yourself.

As far as skirts go - 9 times out of 10 those are being worn by pear shaped women who are skinny on top and big on the bottom. Flowy skirts cover and hide what they need covered.

Apples do better with fitted capris and a flowy top.

Since you are so smug, PP, what do you look like? I am sure that you have appeared on the cover of Cosmo lately. "Heh, heh."

What I won't be doing is walking around in my shorty short shorts with a strappy tank top on. Trust me, compared to that look i do indeed "rock" my capris!

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.

You are dead wrong. Looks better than leg and ass cellulite jiggling from shorts or a skirt.

How does cellulite show with a skirt unless it is short? Cellulite on calves is not a widespread problem.
