They're just really angry and won't take no for an answer. I prefer they express their anger over here than they slap their kids or start screaming at home, honestly. They don't look very mentally stable. No one halfway normal would get this bothered over a school decision!

Lol I think most of us are just perplexed. Thankfully we don't need beforecare and can take our kid to the childcare when it opens at 9. The rest of the world is operating normally. It's weird they can't even open offices on time and reeks of laziness.

Did you offer to shovel your kid's childcare area pavements or at a site that needs more shovelers. Probably not. You are lazy.

There's barely any snow!

Btw I think the posers who just gave themselves 2 hours off can "volunteer" to clean. They are on the payroll.

The last snow day my kid’s teacher mentioned he went skiing. The ones losing out on these borderline half days are our kids who are missing valuable education time that isn’t being made up.

Do you think all of the other government entities are able to open on time tomorrow because their employees showed up on their day off to shovel?

Except this isn't true. The surrounding counties have also called for a 2 hr delay. I'm an expat who has lived in several first world countries: the ones with similar climates to the mid-Atlantic ALSO close in these conditions, because they don't get ice every winter and choose not to risk the safety of their residents when many aren't used to it. It's only when I lived in far northern Europe, where every winter is continual snow and ice, that they were equipped to deal with it day in, day out. The kids there have snow overalls to go to school, you can get grippy snow boots at every corner shop, etc. It's the lifestyle.

So no, you're actually entirely wrong. A region who deals with really hot summers and occasional icy winters should be cautious when there's ice.

It’s not like your kid’s teacher decided to close schools that day so they could go skiing. The district closed schools, the teacher probably has 4 wheel drive so they went skiing.

Why didn't those "other government entities" go shovel mcps sites if they were done with theirs? Did you ask Taylor? You could have helped shovel too.

I don’t need to. I’m fine with whatever decision MCPS makes.

That's just how it works everywhere, PP. Parents bear the brunt of childcare when the weather is dicey for schools, but not dicey enough for workplaces. I'm the PP who is an expat. The same happens in other countries. You signed on when you became a parent. Get your act together. Or maybe you prefer to whine every time your kid gets a snow day? I feel you're going to whine no matter what. You only have one life... try to enjoy it instead of always seeing the glass half empty.

Don't be absurd. Any northern state would be in school tomorrow. Kids wouldn't be wearing snowpants or boots- just a winter jacket, hat, and *maybe* gloves. And the younger kids would still go outside for recess.
