There are a lot of people in this county and a lot of different types of neighborhoods (rural, urban, with sidewalks, without, HOA’s to clear sidewalks vs those who don’t, etc…). Although my street is okay, my sister’s is not. Since I’m an adult I can understand that decisions were not solely based on my street. In addition, I want all kids to get to school safely. This isn’t crazy or rocket science.

If you're that worried, you can drive or walk your kids to school.

As I said, my street is fine. I just understand that decisions are bigger than just me. You should try it.

And those people can walk or drive their kids to school, too. No reason to screw over everyone.

No, we aren't walking distance and we only have one good car...

Except you don’t care about everyone, just you.

Just like you don't care about all the people screwed over by this. If parents would otherwise be stuck with their kids, they can walk or drive their kids to school. Or teach them how to live through the winter.

I am one. Try not being so narrow minded

That doesn't mean you care about anyone else.

No, it doesnt but I don’t blame groups of people for making informed decisions about the safety of thousands. It was the right call even if it means inconvenience to me.

This wasn't the right call. People are perfectly capable of walking or driving in the conditions that we'll have at 7am tomorrow.

+1 the child care delay while literally nothing else (feds, county) is delayed is the tell

You're still going to need to get your kids to school tomorrow.

But how interesting that your kids apparently aren't at the top of your priority list.

Not everyone has a big down coat, boots, boot socks, hat, thick gloves, or a car ride to school. I don't. I just grabbed a pair of gloves for DD at 7-11, she has a year old hat somewhere, a thin coat, and regular white socks. Welcome to DC!

Many other districts in the area are doing the same thing, so I'm baffled as to all these idiotic conspiracy theories and singling out MCPS decision making. Clearly other districts are thinking the same way. Unless MCPS also controls Howard and Baltimore and Fairfax? Heck, Fauquier and Loudoun closed.

Good lord, that is not remotely on MCPS and is pretty much neglect at this point in the year. I get that in November but it's January.

What?? Mcps should make calls based on what Fed is doing or vice versa? Not everyone works for Fed just like not everyone's street is clean.

You should be a better parent. You can get a winter coat at thrift stores. Even new ones can be found for cheap. You don't need a fancy coat- just something to cover your skin and keep out the wind.

I don't hate MCPS, I'm usually a defender of MCPS on this site but this is a dumb decision. The fact that other counties also made the same dumb decision doesn't change that. It's just that my kids are in MCPS not Howard County.

But those are the people that make Taylor think we need delays like this. Apparently personal responsibility isn't a thing anymore.

There is definitely some bandwagon thinking going on. They all follow each other and think bad decisions are justified if the other school systems do it. No matter how divorced they are from other types of organizations and businesses. They could 100% open offices on time and allow child care providers to open on time, but why make the effort when they are all giving each other cover not to?

They're just really angry and won't take no for an answer. I prefer they express their anger over here than they slap their kids or start screaming at home, honestly. They don't look very mentally stable. No one halfway normal would get this bothered over a school decision!

Of course McPS would do this. Fewer hours of work for staffers, no ramifications to the numbers of days in school…

Lol I think most of us are just perplexed. Thankfully we don't need beforecare and can take our kid to the childcare when it opens at 9. The rest of the world is operating normally. It's weird they can't even open offices on time and reeks of laziness.
