My sidewalk is a sheet of ice

Report it so they will close, or fix it. We must make sure the kids are safe.

No. Hope your lessons plan are done, you're working today.

The teacher hate is so ridiculous on this site.

For my fellow teachers: thank you for what you do and have a good day today. You’re appreciated by most and despised by few. Unfortunately, those few all reside here on this site.

Kids are going to be awful today given the delay. Teachers earned a well-deserved nightmare.

If they don't like it, they can tell MCEA to cut out the unnecessary school delays.

But it was the pp's own sidewalk. She doesn't want to go outside to shovel it.

You're complaining that you didn't clear your own sidewalk? And apparently trying to use that as justification for closing? Weird.

Based on the posts from teachers in this thread, that hate is well-justified.

Someone told you to do your job and that means they hate you. Got it.

So… teachers caused the delay? Not the ice? Not the cold? Not the BoE? Not the superintendent?

Got it.

You need someone to blame for the problems in your life, I guess. Teachers are an easy target.

The hate in general is so ridiculous on this site. Teachers are not remotely the only target.

That being said, it's also ridiculous that MCPS leadership decided to delay childcare opening while no other employer in the county has any kind of delay. This is NOT on the teachers or MCEA at all.

I think parents should advocate for a law providing paid leave by taxpayers when MCPS closes childcare. I think policies will change suddenly.

It's too cold to teach! I might be moderately uncomfortable as I prepare for my commute! That's not fair! And surely you don't expect me to wear appropriate footwear.

Does MCPS purchase buses designed for southern states and that is why they have trouble starting them on colder days? I have never hear of this problem before moving here.

No. This is seriously a problem after a 3 day weekend and extreme cold. Does your car ever have trouble starting in extreme cold or after not being driven awhile?

I grew up in NoVa. My mom was a teacher and worked in a building housing the transportation office. She told me about this. I had never thought of this either!

Do people mock you and your profession, without cause or reason? Do they blame you for things that aren’t remotely in your control?

If so, I’m sorry. It stinks when people treat you with little respect, especially when they don’t even know you or any aspect of your job.

Know I would never do that to you.

Yes, I've had that problem. But at -20F, not at 10F.

You people are ridiculous. 3 days isn't long, and 5-10F isn't that cold.

Maybe your kids will be awful because of the delay, but most students are better reared.

I expect that many of my students will have anxiety about the new administration.
