Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
|
what bell schedule is Navy on? our ES starts at 840am, and kids cannot be let into the building until 825am.
Fairly certain this is an FCPS policy, not certain why this school feels its students deserve to be indoors earlier....teachers are not paid to arrive early to watch your children before school starts. |
Then they need to fix the kiss n ride line so it moves faster if they shorten the drop off times. They can do this by posting adults at the top of the hill to enforce kids getting out of the cars earlier and keeping the line moving, but for some unknown reason they don’t. They don’t enforce kids getting out of cars earlier and instead let the entitled parents wait until they practically reach the front door to let their snowflakes out of their cars. They also allow parents to park at the top of the hill and walk down through the parking lot which also slows the line down tremendously. They have at least 2 adults down closer to the doors that just stand and wave. Why won’t they post an adult further up the hill? |
It’s pure entitlement. There are too many parents at Navy who feel they deserve private school type treatment at a public school. This mentality is not the root cause of the staffing challenges but it sure hasn’t helped. |
No one should settle for Medicare. Demand excellence so that everyone can rise to the occasion! |
Yes, keep “demanding excellence” with zero idea what day to day life is like for teachers who have to educate all kids and do a ton of things not directly related to teaching. See how well that works out for your kids. You’ll be the first to complain when good teachers keep leaving and we’re left with whoever they can manage to hire. |
Much simpler solution: start counting the kids tardy. Make it a problem for the parents. |
"Fairfax County Public Schools believes that learning happens best in community. When we have equally high expectations for each and every one of our students, everyone benefits. In FCPS, we believe excellence, equity, and access to opportunity are essential for success in all aspects of life. Together, they foster growth, development, and high achievement for each and every student, as they prepare for a world yet to be imagined." Hey FCPS says this stuff is essential. Don't settle for less. Even from yourself. Integrity First Service before self Excellence in all we do, its the FCPS way! |
Key word: students. Not sure how you think that placing unrealistic demands on staff helps accomplish that goal. |
That doesn’t actually speed up the line if they won’t start the line moving until a certain time. |
Tardys are a useless threat: https://www.insidenova.com/news/loudoun/state-supreme-court-parents-cant-be-charged-for-student-tardiness/article_b0dee41e-9f45-54fa-99bc-1b67851dd87d.html?=/&subcategory=28%7CArts |
So there are only two adults on duty? Are there patrols stationed along the sidewalk? If not, they should be. I’m a parent at Fort Hunt. We have a new K&R this year and it’s so much better. Patrols (about 10) and a few teachers are posted at cones all along the sidewalk. They stretch the length of the K&R sidewalk. As the line of cars pull up, the patrol or teacher opens the door and helps the student exit. Then all the cars pull forward and the next set of cars pull up. We are an immersion school, so there are a lot of car riders. The other thing that helps is that cones are placed all along the curb edge on the road leading into the K&R. This prevents parents from parking and walking their child in. |
| Would it be safe to have patrols out there? |
Standing along a sidewalk with a few staff members nearby? Absolutely. They’re not standing in the street. They open a car door on the curb side. Keeps the car ride line moving. Maybe someone should visit Fort Hunt to see how it works. |
| This thread is the gift that keeps on giving. I can't wait for the boundary changes to switch you guys to Chantilly or Fairfax HS, LOL! |
A lot of the kids already go to Chantilly. One side of Fairfax County Parkway goes to Oakton and the other goes to Chantilly. |
