The A1H thread in the AAP forum had to ask them to move their conversation because the Navy parents were taking it over with the Navy drama and their dislike of the 6thg rade advanced math teacher.

Let’s Speak the truth. Kids who didn’t take advanced math last year and didn’t take the 6th grade SOL last year are now in the same class as kids who did take advanced math and the 6th grade SOL. That’s level 3 services. Nothing to do with kids in algebra so let’s not conflate the two. Navy is not providing differentiated lessons at level 4 for 6th grade non algebra math., but good job navy admin for trying to pit the parents against each other when it’s not about that. Let’s talk about how much AAP Kids are having to help their classmates who may not have the same level math last year.

Wait, you're mad because there are kids who weren't in AAP last year now in your kid's AAP class? So in your mind, those kids who presumably qualified for the first time in 6th based on test scores/other factors shouldn't be allowed into AAP because they weren't there the year before? What kind of nonsense is this? You're going to have a hard time in middle school when *gasp* former Gen Ed kids are in your precious AAP kid's class!

What can’t you understand. A kid who took 5th grade math and 5th grade SOL are now in a class with kids who took 6th grade math and the 6th grade SOL. This is not appropriate for a center school. It has nothing to do with non AAP and AAP. It’s a center school that is supposed to provide level 4 services. It’s simple. You don’t have to be mad. Talk factually not emotionally.

You are the one who is mad, crazy AAP parent. You have no idea what those kids were doing at home. It's highly possible they were always borderline for AAP and doing math work a grade level ahead at an outside place. My kids have multiple non-AAP friends doing just that. I promise your child will overcome the terrible hardship of being in a class with kids who you perceive as academically inferior to yours.

You are too hung up on your emotions. This isn’t a class based on subjectivity. There are tests administered and placement is based on those tests, just as in selection of algebra. Nobody thinks your kid is inferior except you. The class is too watered down for the kids who’ve had advanced math since 3rd grade and it’s because they are not able to differentiate.

If you want a class to cater to exactly your child’s level, pay for private school. Otherwise deal with the fact that some years your kid may be in a class that is watered down compared to what you think your kid deserves. Do you think every kid in FCPS has always gotten exactly what they needed in terms of differentiation? Consider yourself lucky you are only dealing with it the first time in 6th grade.

These kids were accepted into a Level 4 program over 4 years ago and the Navy admin should meet the bare minimum requirement for that program which is differentiation. We pay taxes so no thanks on the private school suggestion. And it’s not just dealing with watered down material for the first time. Most of these kids are trying to prepare for algebra in 7th grade and they aren’t doing the job to prepare them. This entire conversation was sparked by a crossfield parent talking about Navy AAP, so they should know that you may not get the center school services here anymore no matter how much admin tries to sweep it under the rug.

You want to talk about bare minimum requirements? Shall we talk about the 6th grade PBL cohort last year? You know, the cohort that didn’t have an actual teacher for 6 months?

And you’re complaining because your kid is in a class with a few kids who didn’t take the same grade level SOL? I just can’t.

But, but… their child is SPECIAL because they’re in AAP and came to Navy for the center! Everything should be perfect!

PP supported your cause last year. You can also be part of a community and empathize with their cause this year. You don’t have continue your divisive narrative of AAP vs. non AAP.

You keep making assumptions regarding who you are talking to. I did not have a “cause” last year — I didn’t have a 6th grader. But let’s not pretend that not having as much differentiation as a parent would like is even remotely the same situation as not having a teacher at all. There is a level of entitlement that seems to be consistent among certain parents.

Oh gosh! Someone is a little sensitive about getting the Harvard qualified principal fired last year.

You sound like this, “By the way why are the nerd parents complaining about their kids not getting the proper education?”

The navy community is so predictably hateful to the “wrong” people. The only difference is now you have a a principal that supports your cause. At this I even miss the previous previous guy. At least he wasn’t divisive.

PP has gone awfully quiet…

Algebra is a pilot, beyond level 4. If you learn to read and comprehend, you’d understand the conversation is about regular AAP math. Perhaps you need some tutoring on how to read?

I do understand. You’re worried AAP math is now watered down because they let non AAP kids in this year, right? They let them in AAP math bc a lot of the AAP kids actually moved up to Algebra so there was space in the AAP math class. What don’t you get about that?
