It's not all of us I promise! Unfortunately certain AAP parents give the whole school a bad reputation. Ironically a lot of them are the ones who came from Crossfield. There are plenty of non-AAP parents whose kids have been at Navy since kindergarten who do not get caught up in the craziness.

Pretty sure you got the last principal fired, but sure you’ve got a great reputation. It’s ppl like you who continue to divide the community.

You don't get talk to about dividing a community when you are the one throwing out wild accusations. I was involved in nothing of the sort.

The A1H thread in the AAP forum had to ask them to move their conversation because the Navy parents were taking it over with the Navy drama and their dislike of the 6thg rade advanced math teacher.

Let’s Speak the truth. Kids who didn’t take advanced math last year and didn’t take the 6th grade SOL last year are now in the same class as kids who did take advanced math and the 6th grade SOL. That’s level 3 services. Nothing to do with kids in algebra so let’s not conflate the two. Navy is not providing differentiated lessons at level 4 for 6th grade non algebra math., but good job navy admin for trying to pit the parents against each other when it’s not about that. Let’s talk about how much AAP Kids are having to help their classmates who may not have the same level math last year.

Wait, you're mad because there are kids who weren't in AAP last year now in your kid's AAP class? So in your mind, those kids who presumably qualified for the first time in 6th based on test scores/other factors shouldn't be allowed into AAP because they weren't there the year before? What kind of nonsense is this? You're going to have a hard time in middle school when *gasp* former Gen Ed kids are in your precious AAP kid's class!

What can’t you understand. A kid who took 5th grade math and 5th grade SOL are now in a class with kids who took 6th grade math and the 6th grade SOL. This is not appropriate for a center school. It has nothing to do with non AAP and AAP. It’s a center school that is supposed to provide level 4 services. It’s simple. You don’t have to be mad. Talk factually not emotionally.

You are the one who is mad, crazy AAP parent. You have no idea what those kids were doing at home. It's highly possible they were always borderline for AAP and doing math work a grade level ahead at an outside place. My kids have multiple non-AAP friends doing just that. I promise your child will overcome the terrible hardship of being in a class with kids who you perceive as academically inferior to yours.

You are too hung up on your emotions. This isn’t a class based on subjectivity. There are tests administered and placement is based on those tests, just as in selection of algebra. Nobody thinks your kid is inferior except you. The class is too watered down for the kids who’ve had advanced math since 3rd grade and it’s because they are not able to differentiate.

My last statement was a fact. What you wrote is an accusation. I was not involved in any sort of effort to get the last principal fired. You don’t get to throw around accusations with no merit and call them facts. That is fanning flames right there.

If you want a class to cater to exactly your child’s level, pay for private school. Otherwise deal with the fact that some years your kid may be in a class that is watered down compared to what you think your kid deserves. Do you think every kid in FCPS has always gotten exactly what they needed in terms of differentiation? Consider yourself lucky you are only dealing with it the first time in 6th grade.

These kids were accepted into a Level 4 program over 4 years ago and the Navy admin should meet the bare minimum requirement for that program which is differentiation. We pay taxes so no thanks on the private school suggestion. And it’s not just dealing with watered down material for the first time. Most of these kids are trying to prepare for algebra in 7th grade and they aren’t doing the job to prepare them. This entire conversation was sparked by a crossfield parent talking about Navy AAP, so they should know that you may not get the center school services here anymore no matter how much admin tries to sweep it under the rug.

That’s exactly what differentiation is. They placed your child (and all kids) in the group they belonged in based on their test scores.

Spare me the fake outrage and take a look on this very thread. There is one group that perpetuates division more than the other and it’s not even close.

Incorrect. One set of kids took the 6th grade SOL and the other set did not. They did not use the same metric.

Welcome to the real world where public schools don’t always follow through on their promises. They are not accountable
to you personally. It sounds like you want that, hence the suggestion for private school.

We all pay taxes! Doesn’t mean our kids will always get exactly what they need.

Take it up with the principal then, or the AAP coordinator. My guess is the gen Ed advanced math class (taught by female) was full and since many of the AAP kids (taught by the male) actually qualified for Algebra (also taught by the male), the Level IV math class was open to add a number of kids. They probably didn’t have enough AAP kids to make a full class because a lot went to Algebra. In this case, it does make sense to allow advanced math kids from gen Ed to join the AAP math class. That’s why you are freaking out. It’s disgusting oh your part. Go back to your local level IV at Crossfield if you don’t like it.
