Fairly certain this is an FCPS policy, not certain why this school feels its students deserve to be indoors earlier....teachers are not paid to arrive early to watch your children before school starts.
Then they need to fix the kiss n ride line so it moves faster if they shorten the drop off times. They can do this by posting adults at the top of the hill to enforce kids getting out of the cars earlier and keeping the line moving, but for some unknown reason they don’t. They don’t enforce kids getting out of cars earlier and instead let the entitled parents wait until they practically reach the front door to let their snowflakes out of their cars. They also allow parents to park at the top of the hill and walk down through the parking lot which also slows the line down tremendously. They have at least 2 adults down closer to the doors that just stand and wave. Why won’t they post an adult further up the hill?
So there are only two adults on duty? Are there patrols stationed along the sidewalk? If not, they should be. I’m a parent at Fort Hunt. We have a new K&R this year and it’s so much better. Patrols (about 10) and a few teachers are posted at cones all along the sidewalk. They stretch the length of the K&R sidewalk. As the line of cars pull up, the patrol or teacher opens the door and helps the student exit. Then all the cars pull forward and the next set of cars pull up. We are an immersion school, so there are a lot of car riders.
The other thing that helps is that cones are placed all along the curb edge on the road leading into the K&R. This prevents parents from parking and walking their child in.
