Snow day predictions? Anyone

As a teacher, or any other professional working from home, how do I manage that while also doing my job? My zoom link will take kids to a waiting room that has a link for my asynchronous work.

How does your child learn in person without the teacher sitting right next to them? Is he monopolizing the teacher’s attention?

SHE isn’t stuck behind a screen in person and a lot of time is filled with classroom routines that can’t be replicated alone at home.

Actually in MCPS our experience is lots of screen time. The kids play "learning" games. Of course they can be replicated. They just look different. Plenty of kids are learning virtually. Surely yours can for one day.

She also doesn’t have to log into a device or click on anything at school. No toys, snacks or bedroom within walking distance at school. Have you never been around an 8 year old?!?

She never uses devices at home? Look, if you don't want to work, take a personal day and get a sub. Everyone will understand. Or, parent your kid and give consequences if she doesn't do school. Simple.

Glad you’re more worried about “instructional loss” than student safety. The kids will be more than just fine.

Personally, not that poster but I'm concerned about both. They should have done virtual today and tomorrow.

And how would they do that if students don’t have Chromebooks? Critical thinking… try it sometime.

She uses devices at home for fun, not for work. She also doesn’t have to stare at her face or a teacher’s face while using a device at home or even work form multiple windows at the same time.

They couldn’t do virtual today and tomorrow. Some students don’t have personal Chromebooks to take home. Teachers have to be given advance notice. They’re not doing virtual unless there’s an event that will likely close school for several days and is predicted days in advance.

That's the worst option. At least they'll need to make up snow days if they keep doing this. "Virtual days" are just a loophole to get them out of actually needing to meet state requirements on instructional days.

Does MCPS even have an approved plan for virtual days? Last I heard it wasn't even clear they applied for it this year.

I thought Virtual was only for code purple? Also, they sent out notice to parents months ago to pick up a chromebook to keep at home in case students needed to do Virtual learning.

The sidewalks are not cleared, why can't DCPS have a delay start for tomorrow. Any news / information about this please share.
