Snow day predictions? Anyone

Anonymous

Most school districts have announced a two hour delay on Wednesday. MCPS will probably do the same. Be careful at the bus stops.

As a teacher, or any other professional working from home, how do I manage that while also doing my job? My zoom link will take kids to a waiting room that has a link for my asynchronous work.

You find a way to make it work, hire a babysitter, bribe or punish your kid. You should not be doing asynchronous when you are supposed to be teaching.

Ha! You’re assuming your school laptop will even work at home, let alone kid’s Chromebooks

Of course they will work or you can use your own computer.

This is especially relevant when sidewalks are not clear and many will be standing in the road. 2- It gives the bus depot more time to ready the buses. In the extreme cold, there is a history of some buses needing help to get going.

3rd reason - light enough for bus drivers to see the road and if there is black ice. No one wants school buses sliding down hills in the dark.

HS has a two mile walking zone, so its a huge problem for those walking 1-2 miles, especially without sidewalks.

The sidewalks themselves will be a bigger problem tomorrow. I’m guessing delay called by 9 pm.

+1

Wait why would that mean school closed Wednesday?

A) freeze over means power loss and burst pipes for some schools
B) kids standing 30 min at bus stops or walking 1.5 mi in below freezing temps

1.5? hs walking zone is 2.0 mi

So much easier for parents to plan ahead rather than last minute

FCPS also teaches the science of reading and has separate superintendents for each area. But, you’re just now noticing they are better than MCPS?

2 hr delay, closure for Wed is my prediction. Off again on Friday. What a waste of a week

How does your child learn in person without the teacher sitting right next to them? Is he monopolizing the teacher’s attention?

SHE isn’t stuck behind a screen in person and a lot of time is filled with classroom routines that can’t be replicated alone at home.

She also doesn’t have to log into a device or click on anything at school. No toys, snacks or bedroom within walking distance at school. Have you never been around an 8 year old?!?

They practically never do, so make your preparations.

Glad you’re more worried about “instructional loss” than student safety. The kids will be more than just fine.
