Snow day predictions? Anyone

We’re gonna have a delay at the very least. Nobody needs to be caught off guard, and everybody needs to make childcare plans now.

If somebody comes on here tomorrow and complains about the delay, or closure, I’m gonna wonder how they were able to procreate.

Ha, this, except we are assuming closure. Have been doing extra work all weekend to be able to meet work deadlines that wait for no snow day or child who wants to go sledding!

We’re assuming delay tomorrow.

Both my kids have afterschool things they’re looking forward to tomorrow, so my forecast includes tears if school is cancelled outright.

Sorry to say it but your kids need to get ready for tears...

Prepare for tears.

I thought they were no longer canceling, but rather moving online?

(Granted, moving online is essentially canceling, since teachers aren't prepared for a sudden switch to online teaching and half the kids won't log in. But the substantive difference is that it doesn't require using a snowday or doing a makeup.).

I’m expecting (and hoping for) a delay.

I’m hoping closure but won’t be surprised if delay.

And not all the kids have their chromebooks. Virtual only works for announced snow when kids in the cart model can take home their chrome books in advance.

Isn’t the snow supposed to stop by midnight? Kind of surprised by the cancellation predictions, but I’m still adapting from having lived the past 15 years in Boston. I was thinking 2hr delay.

They’ll announce a delay tonight to make us think they’re on top of it. Then tomorrow morning as we’re preparing for delay they’ll announce closure

Our principal’s weekly message said this:

Our two built-in inclement weather days will be used BEFORE MCPS switches to virtual instruction code purple days.
Code Purple would only be announced if the impacting event is PREDICTABLE and part of a multi-day scenario.
Code Purple would be announced by noon the day prior.
Synchronous instruction will begin 2 HOURS LATER than the traditional bell schedule.

Start making alternative snow party plans

School will be impacted in some way tomorrow. Start making plans now so you don’t complain when the official call is made tomorrow morning at 5 am!

With 20+ years as an Mcps teacher, this my prediction and advice as well.
I’m mentally preparing for my high schoolers to ask for sleepovers tonight.
