Delay Tues

Ugh I think they should go to school tomorrow even with an inch or two of snow. 2" of snow is not a hazard for driving or walking. But after last week's early release for rain, I'm banking on a delay if not a full cancellation.

Agree that they should have school, even if they have to do it on a delay. 1-2" is not a big deal. But I am bracing myself for a cancellation.

They canceled school early for anticipation of wind that wouldn’t be abnormal until hours after the last normal dismissal time….they should close for a week then for this

There is currently a coating (9am Monday) in out part of the county and two buses and a couple of cars are stuck on the hill near our house. It’s not the depth of snow but how slippery it is with the roads untreated. I’m sure further out in the county the situation is worse and the heaviest snow isn’t until this evening and overnight. I think a delay is a certainty and a closure is possible.

Problem is lack of preparation.

This Monday morning, a truck spun out on 495, cars were sliding all over the place in the DC area, just because local governments could not salt the roads before hand.

The little snow that fell last night is being compacted into ice by vehicles and it's turning into ice, since temperatures are below freezing and there's no salt.

In those conditions, even a tiny amount of snow can cause crashes and traffic problems.

So I assume that Tuesday there will be delays, if not downright closures, while people try to keep up with the snow clearing. Open the rest of the week, and we'll see when the snow is supposed to start on Friday. If it snows or we have freezing rain late on Friday, Friday evening and Saturday activities may be impacted.

MoCo Snow gave it a 3 pencil. 50% chance of day off. Very good chance of delay.

School will be impacted in some way tomorrow. Start making plans now so you don’t complain when the official call is made tomorrow morning at 5 am!

Minimum of delay. I will be surprised if they go for any part of the day - this is MCPS, after all.

It's not MCPS' fault that local governments don't treat roads, PP.

Every school system impacted by this small weather event is going to close on Tuesday because no one thought to treat the roads last night. They're icy and there have been numerous accidents already as a result (as of this Monday morning).

Watch the closures rolling in this afternoon. Curse on any school system who decides at 5am tomorrow, given the certainty of 2-4 inches of additional snow tonight.
