You know that as a law enforcement officer, husband was figuring out a way to make this look like a murder/self-defense situation.

And basically, it comes down to money... men who want to divorce their wives, but don't want to share the assets. So, they decide the way to keep all their money/pensions/assets is to kill off the wife. It's not the first time this type of scenario has been in the news (although their usually isn't a boyfriend involved).

Hmmm…this doesn’t seem impossible to me. It’s entirely speculative but I like it.

DP, the other thing that sticks out is that she was charged with second-degree and not manslaughter. If she were defending herself and Christine from Joe’s, stabbing/threatening/etc., it would likely have been manslaughter. Second degree indicates, although not premeditated, time to think about the actions.

Thinking they overcharged to try to get her cooperation re: Brendan Banfield so they have the strongest case possible despite his lack of cooperation. If she provides it, pretty certain it will be plead down. And excellent point, suggests not in the heat of the moment action.

The whole situation is so horrific, it's just hard to wrap my head around the banality of evil.

This case is so grim and the number here who seem. most concerned with the feelings and rep of a man who killed his wife and the mom of his preschooler is the cherry on top. Maybe just a few nutters and sickos or family. Decent human beings have a very different take and hopefully most identify and empathize with Joe, Christine and the tiny girl.

Doubt that increased by almost 100K in a few years but, who knows. They were not rolling in money nor do I think their parents with fed or LE backgrounds were wealthy and subsidizing them. If there were insurance policies on Christine, wonder if recent?

This is crazy and not possible. You can’t just put a gun in one person’s hand and a knife in another person’s hand and stage a double murder. The husband has a law enforcement background. He knows that wouldn’t work. Anyone who has watched Dateline knows that wouldn’t work.

I don't think you know how much things cost and how much these people make. A PICU nurse probably makes $100K. A GS-15 probably makes $175. A Tesla costs $35K, and if he's leasing it, it's maybe $300/month. The Au pair costs maybe $1500/month (cheaper than daycare). His mortgage (inc. tax and insurance) is probably less than $3500 a month. He could easily afford these things even on his salary alone.

BS. My husband is a GS15 and although he makes about 184k/year, he brings home only about 7200k/month - net, after taxes, 401k, flex spending, etc.

Out mortgage is $2100k/month, but that is only because we had inheritance money to pay a bigger down payment (our house is worth about 900k, in Reston and when we bought it, it cost us 675k, with about 50% down payment).

No way we could have afford an aupair, a preschool tuition, student loan, tesla car payment, etc only on his salary alone.

The truth is, we don't know anything about their financial situation - maybe their parents helped them buy the house, maybe his parents are helping him continue to pay for the au pair or the mortgage on his house. Maybe they did really well in the stock market (we own stock in Tesla, it's increased by 1000% since we bought it). Maybe he inherited money from his grandparents. You have no idea, but clearly he CAN afford to stay there.
