BA.5 Variant, the worst version of Omicron, is vaccine evasiive and surging across the country

I just read an article from the Journal of Travel Medicine. Apparently, the original Covid had an approximate transmission of 3 per person, Delta variant 5 per person, Omicron last fall 9 per person, and BA.5 18 per person. Sure scary, if true.

It isn’t scary. If you are vaccinated you are highly unlikely to die. Worst case you feel terrible for several days. But most people are mild enough to be out of bed and going about their normal life, maybe at a slower pace.

I don't care about dying anymore. That's not the issue now. The issue is WASTING our time being sick! And passing it on to others so we have to waste our time when THEY are sick.

No one is ***scared*** . We're just practical and want to get shit done. What about that don't you understand?

And what don't you get. Constant ineffective mitigation methods don't allow you to "get shit done."

The constant isolations/quarantines, kids having to stay out of school, camp, daycare for days for being a close contact or asymptomatic is much much disruptive to me than actually being sick for a few days

I mean, the first post in this chain says "Sure scary, if true."

I think that good points are made on all sides but in many cases the people who seem to have little disregard for others would be changing their tune if it were them or a family member who is sick. Most of these people have probably not had it or had such a mild case that they don’t get it.

I think it’s scary how the original Covid was supposedly more contagious than the flu, and the subsequent variants keep getting more and more contagious.
Anyway I am 44 and healthy but have been in bed for 2 days with this, not normal for me at all.

Most people have mild cases, period. Regardless of how strongly you feel or don’t feel about mitigation efforts

I’m very healthy and I’ve been down for over a week. Vaccinated and boosted. This has never happened to me.

I love all the people who are all "it's time to move on and accept that COVID is part of life" but can't be bothered to accept that wearing a mask and being cautious is part of accepting that.

Honestly, it’s the concerns about long lasting damage that gets me concerned.

A huge chunk of those people aren't even going to know they have Covid and will keep "getting shit done." You should too.
