Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Howard County are currently at high community spread as of this week, increased from the previous weeks.

And yet deaths have been flat since March, as the initial Omicron wave subsided. Similarly, ICU admissions have been fairly flat.

So, a lot of people are getting Covid, but people don’t seem to be getting particularly sick from it.

Lots of people are getting pretty sick from it.

Kind of like the flu. Did we mask every winter before covid? Did we kick healthy kids out of school simply because they happened to sit next to someone that came down with the flu? Did we regularly test kids that weren’t showing any symptoms for the flu?

Not comparable but more reason to mask.

Correct, much milder than the flu

I’m be been in a small Eastern European town since end June where there’s zero talk about Covid. I am getting worried returning to the US.

This is a weird DC obsession. Much/most of the rest of the country returned to normal/or new normal legitimately at least a year ago.

Yep. The rest of the country is no where near as obsessed as the DC area. I no longer live in the DMV and covid has not been an issue here since the spring. It's definitely not a topic of conversation anymore.

Ok. It happens.

Just pointing out that just because one county is low, it doesn’t mean it’s not around.

Who said "It's not around"?

It’s not milder for some. It was not for me.

Same. I live in a blue state/town. No one is talking about covid. It’s not treated differently now than the cold or a flu. The only evidence left of COVID is when you go to the doctor/hospital where masks are required. But these are the same places that allow or require cloth masks so they clearly aren’t that bright.

The numbers are clear. Weekly mortality rates from covid among vaccinated individuals are lower than weekly mortality of the flu during flu season.

I don’t care about mortality I care about getting sick. How hard is that for you to understand?

In that case there are a lot of other viruses out there. Why are you focused on covid?

We’re talking about public health. No one cares what you are scared of individually.

From “two weeks to flatten the curve” to “I never want to get sick ever again.”

For some people the goalposts have moved so far in 2.5 years.

Then don't get sick. You have options.

We mask and mostly stay home. Still got it.
