BA.5 Variant, the worst version of Omicron, is vaccine evasiive and surging across the country

Anonymous
New Yorkers have been asked to wear high quality masks both indoors and in crowded outdoor spaces. The BA.5 variant is extremely transmissible. It is also vaccine evasive. And as this variant surges across the country, hospitalizations are rising.

I run a training class and we had multiple speakers (all of whom are vaccinated due to work requirements) out due to covid. It really put us in a bind! While some people are mocking the situation (“The sky is falling!”), it’s not funny for those of us who have to deal with the consequences.

My office had a healthy young woman in her 20s out sick for over a week with this. It sucks.

We are at a pivotal point in the pandemic as it become endemic. We are all going to get it and some us multiple times. We don’t know the long term effects of multiple infection. We do no that for many that isolation, distancing, mask wearing also comes at a societal cost. Just look at airlines, incidents plummeted once mask mandate lifted. Everyone can get vaccinated and others will always be moresusceptible and vulnerable. What kind of society and life do we want to live? I’m willing to take the risks of long COVID and unknown long term risk to live a normal life and give my kids a normal childhood. I’m sorry for those that are not able to take that risk. I mean that sincerely.

Completely agree. We have vaccines that are effective at preventing serious illnesses, prophylactics for high-risk individuals, and treatments for those that catch covid. Time to move on.

+1, isolation and permanent masking are simply not long term solutions. I am ready to accept the risks of Covid. I’ll vaccinate as prompted. Ok with conditional masking during surges and in certain higher risk settings as required. But beyond that I feel like it’s time to accept this as new normal and recognize that no amount of quarantining and masking is going to get us back 2019. We live in the Covid era. This is it.

How pompous can you get.

If you're high risk, do what you need/want to do for your own health and peace of mind. Make a risk analysis for yourself and your family.

If I haven't had covid yet while living my life 1000% normally for well over a year, I'm just not worried. To each their own.

I had Covid last week. I wish I knew if I had this variant or the stealth variant.

I picked it up in NYC

This is all really easy to say when you’ve never dealt with chronic illness or long term disability. Would be interesting to see what you would say if your good health (or your children’s God forbid) was messed up for life. As another poster says this is just dripping with arrogance, privilege and lack of humility.

Glad I never got a vaccine for the vaccine resistant variant.

If you tested positive, it wasn't the stealth variant.
