Oakton crash

Think about it this way: If the Toyota driver was a Cop, would he have still made left turn seeing a speeding BMW coming with right of way OR he would have let the BMW pass, and give ticket later?

All the friends and family coming out to try to excuse and justify the BMW driver’s behavior and deflect blame onto other people only reinforces for me that he needs to spend time in jail. He clearly has grown up in an environment that doesn’t believe in responsibility or accountability, so he needs to learn it elsewhere before he kills or seriously injured more people.

No one is justifying BMW driver. But there is a difference between a robber/terrorist and a normal person, when something bad happens. Don't make him a monster because of this momentary lapse of judgement. Let investigators figure out

+1

No one is defending him. Just saying that speed may not be the *only* factor here. Turning into oncoming traffic is generally not good.

Part way into the turn when it stopped for people in crosswalk. So at an angle when the BMW hit the front left corner.

If what you wrote is correct, the Toyota would have been hit in the front right corner.

No. The left side of the BMW is damaged. The BMW's left side went across the left front corner of the Toyota which was turning left but stopped partway into the turn while waiting. If it hit the right corner, that would have been impossible to scrape the left side of the BMW.

That is what I am saying...and we should be careful in choosing words to describe a 18 year otherwise normal kid...the deaths were not intended...he is going to pay the prices....let it be a lesson for every kid...but the Toyota guy, who put himself in the way of BMW carries a bigger burden here...that I am 100% sure

Fcked up VA law or not, he made a huge error too.

There is very limited visibility of the cars approaching the intersection from the other direction, which is why the BMW should have been going much slower approaching the intersection. You can’t avoid what you can’t see.

Spewing this garbage to try to excuse your kid/friend from killing two people is disgusting.

No one is excusing anyone.

If there is limited visibility then it should be left turn only on green arrow.

Driving that rate of speed in a pedestrian zone isn’t a “momentary lapse of judgment,” it’s a decision not to give a f#ck about anyones safety that might interfere with your fun.

If he was under influence, he would be screwed for sure

Pedestrians were not in crossing when it happened....they were out...the Toyota decided he had enough waiting and made left turn though he didn't have right of way

Please tell me you are in no way involved in the legal system

Wow! You know the Toyota driver? What else did he say?

No time...just a citizen...who doesn't want to rush to judgement without getting all facts....

Anonymous
