Spinoff Series - brilliant. |
+1 New poster. And as a parent who spent years around a ballet studio -- "Scholarship" does not necessarily mean the student is already accomplished; some scholarships are given based on a student's potential and as a way to encourage a student who could develop over time into a great dancer. Just something to note. Scholarships are also not necessarily about a student's financial need. Our studio had certain scholarships that were given like awards, to recognize students' efforts, with the benefit of continuing to encourage them to dance. So it's actually not weird in the dance studio world to have "scholarships" that are not given to an already perfect dancer, and that are not tied to financial need. |

I disliked Beth’s behavior in this episode — holding a grudge against a teacher and making that call as an adult was ridiculous.
Also strange to push to have that student perform in a showcase so soon. If she had given her a little time she probably wouldn’t have had that embarrassing experience. And Madison was truly a jerk to not let the twins go to the cabin; she didn’t need to go but she needed to let them go. Why is she always calling the custody shots? |
I hope to God not. That would be the pinnacle of this show's worst feature-- the whole over-the-top Super Dad/Soulmate crap. The true beauty of the show is in the small, real life moments. The only time I really loved Jack was when he was cleaning up the kitchen after the Super Bowl on the night of the fire. It showed the small, overlooked ways we care for and show love for those close to us. That's what also makes me hope and believe that Madison is the end game. Kevin is showing love for her in those little, unrecognized ways. He doesn't even recognize himself, yet. He thinks love is the big romantic flourishes, but he's already loving her with his thoughtfulness and small, unselfish acts. If the writers put Kevin with Sophie at the end, they will have remarkably missed the most important message of the show. (Also, if Sophie were the end game, she would have been helping Kate get ready for her second wedding, but she's not there. Madison is.) |
PP again. Also, we know that Kate and Toby get divorced. Toby is the master of the big gesture, but in the end, that's not what made a happy, loving marriage. Toby is blowing up his marriage by missing out on all the small stuff and not recognizing that a big birthday gesture doesn't make up for that. I think, also, over the course of the show, that Jack and Rebecca's marriage was strong not because of Jack's flowery speeches or anything like that. It was because through good and bad, he was there, doing his part. They listened to each other, shared their thoughts and feelings, were mindful of the other's contributions, and shared the burden and joys of the thousands of moments that go into raising children. |

It really annoyed me that Madison and Kevin haven’t formalized a custody agreement with holiday schedules yet.
I wasn’t super into the Beth storyline (I kinda agree with Dr Kovac) but like her enough that her fulfilled grin while she looked over the pictures on her cork board was satisfying. Good moving the past storyline along with Rebecca/Miguel, the breakdown of Kevin and Sophie’s young marriage, and the parallels between Kate and Sophie’s friendship and Kate and Madison’s. I also liked after all these years of Madison dating men that don’t care about her, she’s finally with someone who seems to truly love and value her. |
Scenes of Kevin visiting him in prison and showing photos of the twins, grown-up famous musician Jack making prison reform his pet issue, à la Kim K. . . I would so watch that! |
I agree with all of this, but don't think the lack of a formalized custody agreement at this point is surprising. Friendly co-parents often think they can go with the flow and keep everything flexible and friendly, until they can't. |
| Still maintaining that Kevin doesn't need to be with anyone. He can be a happy, single dad. |
Except that's not what he wants. |
Because Kevin always gives in on what he wants to make other people happy, at least according to the documentarian whose name escapes me? |
And he has a ring on his finger in the future. |
I agree with all of this. It also annoyed me that Kate was so irritated at Toby for what just seemed to be working. |
| Is Toby’s character supposed to be bipolar? Asking in Ernest, as he has obviously dealt with depression and a scene in bed in the future, but right now he seems to be in a manic type stage. Long hours, grand gestures, etc. |
I agree with all this. Except maybe the Toby part. I kind of feel like Kate signed up for this and has unreasonable expectations. But I agree on all the rest - I think everything is moving towards Kevin realizing that he is in love with Madison. I said this before - but has Sophie been sitting around on the past character shelf waiting to be rolled out for a third try with Kevin. That's just irritating and lazy. |
