I was not gloating about any teams, clubs, etc. I'm just wondering who people think might be in the top division. We don't have to bash other teams, etc. So I've seen Bethesda South, Herndon Black, SYC Blue, Arlington Blue, SYC Orange, Ponce Eagles. I've heard that Takoma Park Black has a shot. If you don't want to participate, don't.

As to SYC...I also am shocked with them. Anyone know what they did over the summer?

There are currently 9 U11 boy divisions in NCSL with approximately 10-11 team each. 100+ teams U11.

You really haven't seen many play.

Further, it's odd the teams you listed aren't even in the same division and other than arl and etc don't even play each other. Just scouting random 10-year old soccer games???? Weirdo.
I've seen on this thread that people have mentioned these teams. I haven't seen them play. : ) but I get how you could have read it that way. My apologies for not being clear.

NP here, but if you've been to a few tournaments you get to see a lot of other teams play if you're so inclined. I actually enjoy watching different styles of play and getting a feel for how clubs are developing players.

I also noticed a big uptick in how well SYC is playing this year. My kid's team played them at Dulles and it was a very different SYC than we saw at U9 and U10.

I think a little curiosity is harmless. I don't think anyone's "scouting." Personally, I've seen my kid's division, and I know a few other teams from friends of ours.

SYC is playing in the CCL Generation Adidas invitational this weekend with mostly CCL clubs. Any chance they are going to move to CCL for league play ?

Scores are not being published on the website, but are being tracked. Fall has been an embarrassment of lopsided matches in several divisions. Spring will the chance to get it right.

Embarrassment is right. Ridiculous lopsided games that we all predicted. Can't wait for spring!

Yes. Then the gloating can stop.

Perspective-these are 10 and 11-year old kids. Good lord.

Vicarious living.

Parents are disgusting. Some Clubs are really filled with d-bags riding on 9 and 10-year old glory.

Wins don't matter at this age. Your kids personal development is what does.

I've been lucky -- I haven't seen any gloating at the games. All good sportsmanship.

On this board, of course, we should all stop talking about NCSL because it's not the sheer awesomeness that is CCL. And all the kids in Loudoun should drive to Arlington ... or vice versa, I forget.

I was told to avoid NCSL . . . everyone worries about winning and lots of direct soccer to quickly score goals.

That's correct. It's a world of meteoric goalie punts, designated goalkeepers, pressured goal kicks, "boot it out of there" parental advice, positional specializations, and other rare delights!

Take it with a grain of salt, though: I'm burned out . . .

Alexandria, Reston, Herndon, PAC and Barca all play attractive soccer when they're not athletically overwhelmed.

That's not a complete list. Just clubs I've seen.

To mention PAC with those teams is really amazing. I've seen PAC boys teams play at U9, U10, and U11 and they are...let's say...not very good. I bet the last three times we played them at these younger ages we outscored them...40-2 (and that's with restrictions). But PAC starts with nothing. They don't have a rec league or anything to draw from. They basically get kids that don't make it on their rec club's travel teams. I mean this says A LOT about the coaching there, doesn't it? To start with nothing and have someone say that they play attractive soccer, which I assume is at the older ages, it's just amazing. Good for PAC. These coaches need a lot of recognition...and let me say that I don't know anyone that plays for pack or coaches at PAC. Never have. It's just amazing to me to think that PAC can get lumped in with Alexandria and Herndon. (I still am not impressed with any Reston team. Every time I watch them, they punt the ball all over the place.) Anyway...just my opinion.

Yeah, they often get crushed at younger age groups and then catch up to an extent. But it's not so much the results we're talking about here as the style. Alexandria's C team isn't going to be as good as Alexandria's A team, of course, but they're still going to play a fluid style.

I saw a Barca U11 team this year that wasn't going to blow anyone off the field athletically, but they were trying to play a nice style. I *think* they were Barca's B team.

Some small clubs are like that. I've heard people rave and rave about Cugini, but they barely seem able to field any teams any more.

I think Reston's approach has changed in recent years. Their U9s last year really moved the ball well.

Sure, none of these clubs have the results of Alexandria and Herndon, which are bigger and are certainly in the top tier of non-CCL clubs in Northern Virginia. (Excluding Bethesda South, which is an anomaly.)

one kid left NCSL and tried ccl . . . actually a lil better, but not too much

Style of play is team/club dependent. A league does not dictate it. We made the opposite move.
