Wouldn't the veep nominee choose the chief of staff?

I don't think so. The primary role of the COS is to manage the VP candidate and integrate her into Biden's campaign. It's also not necessarily a permanent role.

She knows Susan Rice. Here is an article with a photo of them together.

It's only a problem when the powerful exclude the weak. When the weak exclude the powerful or the powerful exclude the powerful, it's just not a big deal.

I think they want to hit the ground running since this is going to be a strange campaigning season b/c of COVID, also because it looks like Whitmer is the pick, they want to surround her with insiders, including women of color, to help ease the transition to the national stage.

Yes, the Jean-Pierre pick does not necessarily mean the VP pick is Black by any means. But I think a PP made an interesting point that Wed night speaker line-up is mostly white, which could point to a Black VP pick.

And Barack Obama right after the VP nominee - leads me to believe that it would be Susan Rice. He was the one who advocated strongly for her and the lineup makes sense.

I think he would be expected to "anoint" the VP pick whoever it is, but he would be especially happy about Rice.

Rice would give the election to trump on a platter.

Not saying they don't know each other, but those kinds of pictures really don't indicate anything. Photographers go around at parties grouping people sometimes for pictures.

Just look at all the pics of Epstein with famous and important people.

+1 He also knows and likes Warren, Bass, Harris, Duckworth, Whitmer, and probably others. I'm sure he had an opinion but this was not his pick to make.

Nopes. Many outlets specifically quoted that Barack made the push for Susan Rice.

Yep. And both Obamas pledged to campaign for Biden/Rice heavily if Rice is the pick.

And you think he would refuse to speak if Rice weren't chosen?? Ridiculous.

Interesting Eric Garcetti interview. He's on the vetting team and stresses a few times in the interview that Biden is looking for wise counsel, like he provided to Obama, someone who can represent him on the Hill and overseas. That does not suggest picking a less experienced governing partner.

Does this really fit anyone other than Warren and Rice? Possibly Bass?

The pros and cons list in the link is interesting. I didn't know there were concerns about Rice in terms of message discipline. I respect her very much, but this seems like a dangerous combo with Biden's own issues in his area!
