| Saw a map at US Soccer web site showing the USGDA for the Wash. Spirit VA is going to be in Fairfax, VA, and not the Soccerplex. No reason now to stay in ECNL in McLean or Bethesda as far as the driving issue is concerned . . . that will be close by. Why Fairfax, and not Arlington though? |

Some participants in this forum appear to consider that DA teams promote an American, physical, style of play relying too much on sending the ball upfront to quick strikers. If so, what would be a good alternative to DA at the U13-U14 level?
|
I don't remember that statement being made here about DA teams, and it's certainly not true for the teams I know most about (DC United and Bethesda). The best way to find skillful teams is to watch games and join practices of those you may be interested in. You can also head over to the local futsal league and ask what soccer teams the participants play on. Kids who are serious about futsal typically want no part of kick and run teams. |
Field space? I'm not sure. I also don't know if the Spirit's relationship with Vienna (whose coaches do a lot of their Super-Y work) plays into it at all. |
I believe BRYC coaches led the older Wash Spirit Super Y teams last summer (and are one of the 4 clubs affiliating with the coming Spirit USGDA team along with SYA, Arlington and Loudoun). Fairfax is probably the most central location among those four clubs. |
That makes sense. Vienna was still involved with several Spirit Super-Y teams. One of the coaches who took a team to the national championship is a VYS guy. I have no idea what "affiliated" really means (does anyone?), but I'd imagine, for better or for worse, top VYS players will likely wind up in the Spirit Academy from now on rather than on State Cup-contending VYS teams. And BRYC may have a more difficult time contending for national championships in the future, but I think the club will be even stronger with its affiliation. |
I don't have any inside insight as to what "affiliate" means. However my guess is that it means something along the lines of ..... your club gets to market itself as a Wash Spirit DA affiliated club, and your club agrees to (1) provide properly licensed coaches for the Spirit DA teams, (2) provide field space for the Spirit DA teams, and (3) provide your top players for the Spirit DA teams. |
No one ? Where is the Loudoun supporter, does Loudoun have a futsal ID team ? does it compare to this or is Alexandria building your future DA teams ? |
We've got futsal, yes we do, we've got futsal, how 'bout you? |
| So, who's going to Italy? |
. . . i think the question came from mclean where their current u12 boys have nowhere to go next year but arlington or dcu. :-/ for u13, maybe try . . . LOUDOUN. |
Our club was going to do metro futsal but not enough teams at u9 or u10. Anyone familiar with this program? http://www.soccer-academy.com/youthprograms/leagues/index_E.html?1477889388 It's the backup plan. I heard the south run field house is cold in the winter |
We played this league last year and it was kind of a mess. Not enough teams so we ended up playing teams twice (and since we had two teams, had to play our own club twice), level of competition wasn't very high, and had some scheduling issues. We're not doing it again. |
PP here again - sorry - I was talking about Metro Futsal. Just realized you were actually asking about Fiesta League. We've done that before and had a decent experience. Yes, South Run is a little chilly, but kids did fine. Just have to dress for the weather and at least you're out of the elements (wind/rain). |
| We are doing futsal here (did Metro last year): http://www.conquerorsleague.org/ |
