LOL!!!! You mean a metric that demonstrates a clubs overall strength across genders and ages does not show the quality of the club as a whole? I'm sure you are concerned about your particular age group and gender but the ability to put out a consistent product from U9 on up on both the boys AND girls side shows tremendous club depth. |
No, the ability to win games at U9 to U12 on a small-sided field going 8v8 tells me very little about how good a club's quality is. For all I know, a club winning all its games at U9-U12 is just picking the biggest fastest kids at U9 tryouts and teaching them to boot it up the field. That works for a while but not after about U13 or U14. |
Sure but Loudoun does win at all ages, so..... |
That is what I am asking you to demonstrate .... do they win more than Arlington, or BRYC, or Beach FC at U13 to U19 where the results of all the training actually begin to show. I am truly interested in finding out, thanks in advance. |

Check out this article for La Masia. Basically an Academy approach would give you everything you would need to succeed, but drop you if they felt you weren't going to turn out to be what they thought. While the "free" approach may not work here in the U.S, I think their holistic approach and willingness to drop a player after season has ended is an approach USDA needs to adopt, if it hasn't already. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/27/sports/soccer/la-masia-a-model-for-cultivating-soccer-players.html |
I think the real difference is the entitlement and expectations are vastly different between here and there. Pay to play creates a sense of entitlement that blurs the big picture and reality. |
It STILL tells you jackshit because they start acquiring outside players at those older ages. Kids trained and developed elsewhere will start making moves into these clubs. Tells you zero about their training-just they are big and can recruit. |
U9 - U11 is not even tracked for club points, so the only difference between you and the other guy is whether to include U12 or not. Not a big game-changer. |
checked the link . . . for this season so far, from U12-U19, Arlingron is leading everything, boys, girls, and overall. not sure about the past and whether it included the younger ages. |
| So ... what's everyone planning for the winter? |
Skiing. |
Soccer wise, we are paying our older children to teach the 2d grader how to juggle, and bribing him with a prize if he can get above 10 consistently (from our experience with the older kids, we have found that if you can get to 10, you can get to 100 pretty rapidly thereafter). All the kids do rec basketball in the winter for a change of pace. I wish there were more futsal courts and leagues available near us. |
