Th: Booker, Newsom, Duckworth, Harris, Biden

No clues here, since the VP will just swap out the slot if it’s one of the scheduled speakers.

His first choice turned him down.

Kamala was the natural first choice for the name recognition. She didn’t want to gamble on Biden. The recent op-Ed by Willie was planted to let people know Kamala was asked but politely declined.

Then Biden needed to delay to find a plan B.

It better not be Rice. Even my most liberal pals acknowledge she has too many vulnerable areas ripe for criticism.

Crazy theory. Kamala wants it so bad she had her team do savage oppo dumps on Rice and Bass. No way in hell she’s turning it down. Every article reports she wants it badly.

Citation that the “savage oppo dumps” came from her?

Pete’s not on the schedule? Hmm...

Imagine coming to the end of this process and saying ... I’ve selected Gov. Whitmer ....

Clearly Rice and Warren are the most credentialed picks, just not clear if the campaign feels it can manage the negatives in either case. Another choice will mean electability was a major concern.

I like her no BS style. We need major straight talking.

Biden pledged to choose a woman.

Well Rice was already in 2nd place? I think the odds went

Harris
Rice
Whitmer
Michelle Obama

So if we know it’s not Harris, obviously everyone’s odds move up a rung.

How do we know it’s not Harris?

I don't think Willie would have published that op-ed unless it was at Harris' behest to help her save face when she takes AG vs VP.

Glad you have so much insight into Willie’s motives.

This. The Willie Brown piece just plants this notion that Kamala turned it down so she can come back in 2024.

It was reported in at least two articles that Dems believed the opposition dumps came from a rival. Who do you think they were thinking of, and David Axelrod?

David Axelrod

I can’t remember any VP selection process where so much oppo research has been dumped. If I were
@JoeBiden, looking for a good and loyal partner, that should be a source of concern.

Could be, but doubt they'd make it this obvious. Since she's not a politician per se, no-one would expect her to have a speaking slot. An article about the process said this is standard procedure, and the schedule will simply be shuffled if the VP pick is one of the scheduled speakers.

Rice wasn't a prominent speaker at either of the Obama conventions. She's never held elected office and she's from DC - and the Democratic Party also uses DC residents as a bargaining chip for whatever greater good they are seeking.
