Biden's VP?

I simply cannot fathom why he would choose Rice.

Well Rice was already in 2nd place? I think the odds went

Harris
Rice
Whitmer
Michelle Obama

So if we know it’s not Harris, obviously everyone’s odds move up a rung.

How do we know it’s not Harris?

We don't know, but the delay only hurts her.

How so?

He could easily have met his earlier stated deadline (August 1) if he was confident in picking her. Multiple pundits have suggested he's hesitant and needed more time to consider alternatives.

I with you. But if it's Rice, it's Rice. Sign me up.

It’s not a delay - there’s no firm deadline. Trump just has nothing to attack Biden on and for better-or-worse a woman is a good target.

I felt the same way at first, but have been following her social media appearances and can now see why. She's incredibly knowledgable, impressive in a way few other prospects are with the possible exception of Warren. She's also much more down to earth and funny than I expected. I think she might actually be okay in terms of retail politics. And Biden knows and trusts her, which matters.

No, they could have used that valuable time to campaign and fundraise with her. He was noncommittal, which is why prospects like Bass were suddenly in the mix late in the game.

Electorally, Rice isn't the best choice. However, Biden has made it clear that he wants to model the relationship he had with Obama, or "simpatico" as he says. From this lens, Rice is the best choice as they worked closely together for 8 years during the Obama admin. Biden was also ranking member of the Foreign Relations committee so I am sure they had some type of relationship during the Clinton era as well.

To me, the fly-ins to Delaware are likely not about the VP post, but about having a cabinet ready to go on day-one (Whitmer, Buttigieg...) - America is literally in a state of emergency and a leadership void. We know this.

This is what leadership looks like - getting out in front. Planning. Preparing. We used to routinely do this kind of thing - both parties did, actually. But I believe that's what we're seeing.

No, Whitmer clearly was there for VP. Her totally random racial equity press conference the following day, flanked by Black folks, was obvious pandering for VP.

I doubt it. She'll be on Biden's cabinet.

Why? What does he owe Whitmer? While I think she’s a good VP choice, she has no management experience. For cabinet nod, Detroit’s mayor Mike Duggan has far more experience, accomplishments and has done more for Biden.

Duggan also graduated from THE University of Michigan, a HIGHLY prestigious public university. He did not go to Michi...Michigan.. St...St..State, I can't event bring myself to say it!

That is true. Mike Duggan’s Michigan BA/JD degrees are about 100x more impressive than Whitmer’s Tailgate State credentials. Plus he’s a Catholic school lifer, where Whitmer is mere public school stock.

All jokes aside, Duggan has quite literally 100x the experience and leadership acuity. I’d personally give her the VP nod and give Duggan a cabinet nod.

You all cowering about Benghazi clearly have not watched Rice handle it. This Woman has said and quite well...bring it on. She has been cleared by numerous GOP investigations.

And she has written a book about it. She seems like a tough cookie, albeit with a big ego.

+1 I'm okay with her ego. She's earned the right to be confident and assured.

No one cares about her ego. I lived through 2016 and I’m not eager to hash through it again.

Considering Trump literally set up his re-election campaign fund his first day in office - Biden is doing great raising funds on his own

Trump out-fundraised him in July by quite a bit, so no he's not. There was absolutely no reason not to announce earlier except that he really wasn't certain which way to go.

And, he didn't win a primary until 2020 in South Carolina thanks to......African Americans.Quite frankly , if he wants to spend the rest of the summer justifying his choice of an unimpressive ex sorority Caucasian woman from Michigan, who's infinitely less qualified than the klobuchar and Warren and the minority women in contention so be it .

I earned $110,000 in bets during the Democratic by correctly predicting that Biden was going to end up clinching the nomination . I have had two separate bets for the general: A) if Biden picks a non minority ,trump gets reelected and I'll pocket $150k. B) if he picks a minority ,trump loses and I'll pocket $100k. Either way , I'm getting paid handsomely.

There's a dark cynicism in me that wants Biden to pick a white woman. I'm confident that on election night , trump's sparkly veneers will be what you'll be seeing.

I do agree with this. I think its high time women (and everyone else too) voted for the most experienced and capable leader. There is no point pandering to the white/women/suburban swing voters in the Midwest. Why can't those women think broader and vote for the more qualified black woman? Makes no sense nominating the lowest common denominator.

Um, ELIZABETH WARREN is as qualified as any of the black candidates.

Never said Warren is not equal to Rice/Harris. But Whitmer is not equal to Rice/Harris.

Whitmer is equal to Harris and arguendo more qualified than Rice. Hardly a "lowest common denominator." Yikes.

Whitmer knows next to nothing about foreign policy . Intelligence agencies constantly brief Congress not state legislatures . This makes right wing dirt bags like Matt gaetz more privy to sensitive info on America's defense, spying and foreign policy in ways that governors can only dream of . I'm not Harris constituent nor 'fan' . However , you have to be an idiot to out Harris, klobuchar and Warren on the same level as any governor . Unless , of course, you only believe whitmer to be better than Harris and Harris ONLY.

Hard to follow what you are saying. Governors traditionally became president more than senators. You seem to be saying that this is acceptable for men and not women, which is troubling.

At least you admitted that it's hard to follow for YOU. In case you haven't noticed we're discussing the Veep nod. When governors used to clinch presidential nominations they sought veeps with deep foreign policy experience not sorority moms. Whitmer is out of her league .
