GT/AAP Appeals WISC Scores

call the school or check the website. these things are not a big deal. class lists get posted right before the first day just as they do for every other class in the school.

It seems that all kids with good WISC or other testings got in with appeal. I thing this is right because most of these kids were in the pool by NNAT or FxAT or both and they should be in the program anyway.

agreed. This was the case with our DC. in the pool with scores but we needed to appeal. Most of the kids that I know who got in 1st round wee parent referred-didn't have the scores, but the parents had awesome portfolios. My kids were in the pool so I didn't do a portfolio, just sent a parent letter. A lesson learned, indeed.

Same here. In the pool due to test scores, low GBRS, denied during the 1st round. Very high WISC, in on appeal. Most kids from our school who made it in the first round had high GBRS *and* PTA parents. Maybe coincidental, maybe not...

+1. My Sept born DC got high scores in test and WISC, but received extremely low GBRS from school. I think some teachers are confused with maturity or intelligence.

Exact same situation. Very bright Sept. kid, great test scores, low GBRS. The AART was very dismissive, even when we showed her DC's great WISC scores. In on appeal based on WISC.

I have noticed that kids of PTA parents often get in, but I think it is because both parent and child are intelligent and hard-working. The SAHMs may have had great careers before they stopped working, and they are highly educated, and they now have extra time because their spouses are successful enough and earn enough to support the family on one income. Or if they are working moms or dads they are organized enough to juggle work demands with their volunteer PTA role. Not unexpected that their kids would share many of their positive attributes and earn high GBRS, score well on tests. I don't think it's necessarily a political thing.

For late birthdays (our DC has one too), I think the issue is that the teachers are supposed to record only behaviors that they observe in the classroom. So even if they know that your DC is young and believe that he/she has potential, they still need to honestly record on the form only examples of gifted behaviors they have seen, which could be less than for older children simply because of age. DC's teacher kept files throughout the year and wrote down things the children said and put in samples of their work.

I think our AART is going to be surprised that DC got in. AART was very dismissive of DC, even though scores were on target and GBRS was 11. AART told me DC would do just fine in gen. ed. We WISC'd and appealed and are in.

Speaking of AARTs, what is their role after kids get into full-time AAP? Do they still interact with the kids ?

Doen't make the AART wrong.

True (i'm the op of the above), as any kid will do just fine in gen. ed. My comment was that the AART's dismissiveness was unwarranted, and in the end, our DC got in on scores (in the pool kid) and with the WISC. The AART's opinion was not taken in to consideration, apparently.

Same thing here! With great wisc scores (152) and low BGRS (9). Even after seeing the high WISC score the AART was so negative and dismissal. I got a feeling that AART didn't like high wisc since it basically proved their evaluation of my kid resulting in low GBRS was wrong.
