Any truth to the rumor that xxxx and the rest of the Mercedes Wagon in-crowd are thinking of taking their show on the road over to Sheridan in light of the puerile Beauvoir parent tendencies that this whole incident has revealed?
[Edited by Admin to remove name] |

And exactly what are the
"puerile Beauvoir parent tendencies that this whole incident has revealed?" (and i'm writing this as a non-beauvoir parent) |
|
From Sunday's Outlook section.

I read that and was shocked by this sentence: "According to national statistics, one in four girls and one in six boys in the United States will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old."
Does anyone know more about these statistics? Who collects them? How do they define abuse? |
| I once read an extremely skeptical analysis of those stats. I think they are batted about but have no real basis in facts. of course, the problem is serious but it simply isn't true that it is that widespread. |
I've removed the name that was mentioned in the original post. However, person mentioned has let me know that she has no intention of leaving Beauvoir, though she considers Sheridan an excellent school. Its disappointing that this thread has taken on so many dimensions beyond the original focus. It is particularly troubling when anonymous posters drag in the names of people who have nothing to do with the situation (or even those that do for that matter). I want to remind everyone that anonymous posting is a privilege. If you want to toss names around, then have the guts to use your own name when you are doing it. Otherwise, you simply look like cowards. In addition, we reserve all rights to remove any message for any reason, and the anonymous posting of peoples' names will likely get your message removed. |
So now the accused man's FAMILY are also criminals...harboring him, knowing "excalty what this guy is/was"....oh and "don't THINK they didn't have anything to do with this" I'm sorry, but that is just ridiculous! It's also ridiculous that the ONLY truly innocent ones are the kids. There are many people involved. People just as surprised as you were to hear about these accusations. Including the teacher's family members. It looks like a bad situation. But until we know everything. Who can say for sure? Not even his family has the answers to that. And to the person that wrote this: "It's the Beauvoir effect. You love it or you hate it. Either way, emotions run high. Toss that into what is by definition an incendiary situation, and you have a Perfect Storm resulting in otherwise rationale people running amok. " It's more like internet chat arena effect. It happens everywhere. It's not exclusive to Beauvoir or DCUM....but of course you'd think it was. World begins and ends here right!?? |
| Background checks are good but are in most cases ineffective if the person has never been caught. And as someone pointed out having a nude child pic on a camera is usually not a subject addressed or a non perequesite. We just have to know that all is possible everywhere, at any time. Remember the PTA mom and ex-prosecutor jailed for 2 years for having sex with underage boys (her teenage's son friends). Her background was cleaned and she was a prosecutor (her name is Beth Modica). My point is expect anything, anywhere, from anybody at anytime and prepare your children in that sense. SAD but REALITY and ACTUALITY. |
|
Beth Modica's husband is chief of police and she was a prosecutor...in other words, trusworthy people but she ended up molesting sexually students and giving them drug...
Just keep your kids safe as best as you can |
The results have been (unfortunately) replicated over and over again throughout the past 20 years - and consistently the figures for girls comes out between 25-33% and for boys between 10-17% being subject to unwanted sexual touching or interactions (definition of abuse varies among studies) by someone either significantly older and/or in a caretaking position before the age of 18. See the other thread devoted to this subject for more information and links. |
Well, you're entitled to your opinion. But that other incident relating to the church, raised much earlier in this thread, received no prior attention on DCUM or elsewhere as far as I can tell. I'm not saying that it should have, though it did seem to touch on some of the same issues. Just an observation. |
