What SHOULD Dems do?

Pretty much. The consensus seems to be that the best course of action is to explain to voters even more that they are wrong and Democrats are always right in all things.

Don’t all political parties claim to be right? Has Donald Trump or the Republican Party ever admitted a mistake?

He doesn’t need to. He and his party are winning. That is a significant contrast to where the Democrats are now.

Can any Democrat articulate a 2028 candidate that is electable in a national election, and a 2028 message that is more substantive and original than "anything but Trump"? I bet you can't.

So tiresome. Dozens of posts listing viable candidates, and most Democratic positions are moderate and popular (until maligned by Fox News). You’re the ones with the headache now, because Don’s poll numbers are dropping like a rock and the Administration has ZERO to show for its first 100 days other than a looming, self-inflicted recession. Want to know a winning Democratic messsge? How about basic economic competence.

No, not “winning”. Won in 2024, increasingly unpopular in 2025.

This.
The song about Democratic Party failure is not really resonating as the disaster of Trump’s first two months become apparent.

Please for the love of God look at the polling data. The Democrats are less popular than Trump now, even with Trump’s popularity dropping.

God I am so tired of Democrat delusions.

So now it’s vice signaling. America sure does love their dog whistles and CPAC stages “accidentally” shaped like Nazi hate symbols.

Except 4 years ago, just how popular was the GOP after losing and J6?

Real Clear Politics poll average shows his peak disapprovals were Jan 17 2021, over 58%, and Jan 28, 2023.
First was the aftermath of Jan 6--many GOP still publicly disavowing and the lie that it was staged by the FBI or all Antifa could not be sustained.
From April 2022 to January 28 2023--which included the Jan 6 committee hearings and the release of the report--was the longest sustained increase in UNfavorability ratings for Trump. January 2023 was also when Fani Willis was preparing to prosecute Trump but they weren't there yet. And the summer of 2022 was when the documents case started to build.

I think there is a lesson there. Real life serious events do get people's attention.

Strikes me that Carter, Clinton, and Obama were not really establishment Dems or in the national eye forever before they decided to run. Republicans have never, at least in my lifetime (I was born during Eisenhower) run a dark horse candidate. You might say that about Trump but this had been his goal and Roger Stone's) many years before he was an actual candidate. Truman was also a dark horse. LBJ was a unique case, since he had so many years in Congress, but Kennedy was beating him and then, of course, assassinated.

Someone who has deep knowledge of politics might contest me on this, but maybe the answer is not the people in the headlines right now or who were also proposed in 2024 before Harris was anointed.

What exactly do you think people on here do for work. Many people on here are just regular people working those regular jobs that keep this country afloat.

I am sick of people from outside DC who blather on about how superior they are. You are not. Most people here are just like people everywhere else with the same hopes and the same problems. You just want someone to scapegoat because you are a miserable jerk.

Lawyers, lobbyists, and bureaucrats are people too

Why should upper middle class Democrats have to apologize to voters. The voters should apologize to us.

I’m disgusted by the voters. All they care about is criticizing migrants and trans folk and Democrats.

Sure, but here we are today with the White House, the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court, and most State Houses in Republican control. Meanwhile, even after all the Trump garbage over the past 2 months, Democrats are still only polling at 27 percent.

That is awful.

Democrats have the bigger problem. Muddling along with Chuck Schumer doesn't seem to be working. Hakeem Jeffries seems to have fallen off the map. Kamala Harris appears to be on an endless vacation. There is no Democratic leadership at all. It is a completely broken party.

Trump poses an existential threat to the very existence of this country. And yet three quarters of the country does not have any faith in Democrats to right the ship. I think DC Democrats are completely delusional about how much damage they've done to the Party in recent years. The place to begin is to get rid of the DNC. Start there. Fire everyone. Rebuild from the ground up. And try listening to voters this time, particularly working and middle class folks.

Except we know that's not going to happen. DC Democrats despise working and middle class Americans and they don't seem at all interested in winning elections again. I think it's hopeless until the next presidential election, provided Democrats actually have an open primary, which they haven't done in decades. It's all very bleak.

I think the push back against Dems is strong because
1- the base is angry they aren’t doing more
2- anyone else isn’t ready to admit how right the Dems were about the current oligarchy. TO admit that would be to agree they were suckered. So attacking the trans movement keeps trump voters from thinking about their mistake.

Why are Democrats so unpopular now? Two reasons:
1) Pushovers for Trump, not resisting hard enough
2) Pushovers for progressives, not softening commitments to migrants and trans athletes in response to swing voter revulsion.
Different people disapprove of us for different reasons. We’re mad at ourselves and our leaders for not being Democratty enough. Swing voters are mad at us for being too Democratty
