There are a lot of people in this county and a lot of different types of neighborhoods (rural, urban, with sidewalks, without, HOA’s to clear sidewalks vs those who don’t, etc…). Although my street is okay, my sister’s is not. Since I’m an adult I can understand that decisions were not solely based on my street. In addition, I want all kids to get to school safely. This isn’t crazy or rocket science.

If you're that worried, you can drive or walk your kids to school.

As I said, my street is fine. I just understand that decisions are bigger than just me. You should try it.

And those people can walk or drive their kids to school, too. No reason to screw over everyone.

Except you don’t care about everyone, just you.

Just like you don't care about all the people screwed over by this. If parents would otherwise be stuck with their kids, they can walk or drive their kids to school. Or teach them how to live through the winter.

That doesn't mean you care about anyone else.

I just walked my dog for 15/20 mins. I was bundled up and had good gloves on.
By the time I was halfway around my fingers were burning. 5 mins from my house and my fingers were so painful I couldn’t open the garage door using the keypad. I had to bang on the front door with my elbow for my kid to open it. Then I couldn’t unclip the dog leash…..
Pain was about 8/10.
I support a 2 hour delay.
And yes I work FT.

I went out and cleared ice from our steps for 10 minutes with no gloves on and my pain level was 0/10

This alone is a reason to close schools until April at least. And by then it's just not worth. Let's just call it. The school year is over!

No, it doesnt but I don’t blame groups of people for making informed decisions about the safety of thousands. It was the right call even if it means inconvenience to me.

Imagine when it is 6 degrees in the morning ugh

The decision has been made. We don’t need to argue!

Personally I’m glad that I don’t have to make decisions like these.

It will still only be 11 degrees at 9 am tomorrow…

You are ignoring that this is usually cold. Dangerously so. DC winters are usually 50 deg.

That's right. We should definitely close schools whenever it is cold. Obviously those schools in Minnesota must have backup shelters at every school for such occurrences.

Good Lord, can you hear yourselves right now? Put your phone down and step away. Use the extra two hours and book a therapy appointment. Or meditate. Or *something*

No, it's not. Kids play outside in this weather. You're being melodramatic.

We can't open schools in the fall, either. It's too hot and not all schools have working air conditioning. And it is too dangerous for kids to walk home in the afternoon.

This wasn't the right call. People are perfectly capable of walking or driving in the conditions that we'll have at 7am tomorrow.
