I'm in suburban cook county and I know a shocking number of moms in my peer group who went for Trump. They had to keep it secret from their "vote blue no matter who" parents. But retired people have an old image of the Dem party that's no longer accurate. The moms had a variety of reasons but they ALL brought up the gender nonsense that permeates the schools. Assemblies in ES to celebrate a teacher coming out as trans, endless books about expressing your gender, teaching kids about being non binary. The party has alienated a generation of young parents with this baloney.

This. People who dismiss this as a “tiny” issue must not have school-aged children. Just last month a boy ran in the girls’ race at my son’s cross-country meet in northern VA. The kids were confused as to how the adults let that happen. They know it was unfair. Asking us as parents to deny the reality we can see with our own eyes is a losing position to take.

It’s everything. A lot of issues and aggravating sound bites from the Left on myriad things. It isn’t just transpeople in the locker room, so don’t fixate on that reason.

Like another poster said, this is really an indictment of the far left that somehow took up way too much time and space in Dem politics. We need Dems to have a Sister Souljah moment and call out the crazy.

Kamala could have had a moderating Siter Souljah moment on the view if she had come up with a single policy of Biden’s she would change, but she couldn’t think of anything. Sealed her fate.

Very disappointing (but not totally surprising) that people who think they are so smart got it so wrong.

You also have to have a plan to address these. Trump doesn't really offer anything except "deport people". People care about words only, not actual plans.

This is absolutely true. They took every fringe weird thing and totally blew it out of proportion. And the fearmongering is effective when their base is as isolated as they are. They apparently now actually believe that Dem cities are murderous hellholes overrun by arsonistic mobs and hordes of cat-eating illegal aliens and that our schools are full of nothing but weird kids who think they care "cat gender." Several reasons:
Country is racist, sexist, and xenophobic
The whole mess with Biden being the candidate and then withdrawing
She is amazing compared to Trump, and I like her fine, but I don't think she would have been the first choice for nominee if it had not been for the Biden mess. The dems did not really build up her image as VP much, so she felt like sort of an unknown. Made no difference to me, given the other choice, but probably affected undecided voters.

Completely agree. Normal people are tired of the woke BS.
