If things hold true to form from years past understand many of the 20 or so spots have been filled. These players have a good sense of where they stand. If you don’t know by now your DD is more likely grinding it out for 3-5 truly open spots. With over 100 kids trying out there’s less than a 5% chance of a random player making Capital Blue. Set proper expectations with your DDs and have realistic expectations for yourselves.

Capital is not going to build a team from scratch based on a 2-3 hour tryout. That’s barely enough time between water breaks to see any meaningful player time for 100+ kids. They already know who the top players are in the incoming freshman class. The reality of the tryout is to finalize the last few spots.

+1000. Orange is wide open, but as PP has stated please have realistic expectations if your daughter is shooting for Blue.

I have a 2030 girl so I don’t really understand how this works. Capital Blue takes 4 or so each from BLC, Pride, Stars, and Next Level? And where do the other 20 or so from their teams go?

For the 26 and 25 teams over 10 came from Pride, but the point is unless you are taking private lessons, working out at HB and doing the Capital clinics it is extremely difficult to make CLC B. It is never easy to make CLC B, but a lot of girls make sure Capital knows who they are prior to tryouts. As noted above the number of "open" slots for CLC B is probably 3-5 as the Capital staff has done their due diligence and they have a good idea who are the top players.

In most years, it is 8-10 from Pride, 4-7 from Stars and some 4-6 from other clubs like VaMetro, BLC, MCE ,CavLax, etc for its Blue team.

This year is different because BLC is top 8 national team and its entire starting lineup plus a few subs are likely to make Capital Blue. The number of Pride/Stars girls who make CapBlue will likely be determine by how many BLC girls choose Capital vs. a top MD club like Heros, M&D or SW. Also, M&D and Heros both have a couple key players who are from DC. Will be interesting to see if they say or tryout for Capital which would complicate things even more.

Most top players who don't make Capital Blue don't take the Cap Orange offer, but stay at previous club or move to another A team (including some in MD) with a decent recruiting rep.

Capital will take the top players regardless of club affiliation. It would be an unlikely scenario where an equal number come from 4 MS clubs. Historically, Capital has had a good idea which players they will add long before tryouts. There are usually a few spots open for 100+ kids trying out to fill.

Those who don’t make Capital Blue will go to Capital Orange or various other clubs.

The Top players (eg. American Select, UA150 quality) who don't make Capital rarely go to Cap Orange. They often go to Pride or some 2nd tier MD clubs like MDU, Integrity, CCLax, etc.

This really depends on the year. Generally, yes. As others have posted on this forum the one exception where Pride was equal in talent on the field to Capital Blue was their 2023 team. That Pride team chose to stay together. But this was unusual.

Both Capital Blue and Pride Black played in the top brackets of tournaments that year and both had extremely high strength of schedules - top 5. The difference in those two teams was Pride had no clue how the recruiting scene worked and their players paid a steep price as a result.

Go to whatever team your DD can make that will play in the top brackets, plays a tough SoS, and the club has had proven recruiting success. If playing at a high level in college is the end goal.

Judging by most recent matchups - take Capital Orange over Pride Black. 25 Orange lost to 25 Black by 1 this summer and 26 Orange beat 26 Black in the fall 8-4 in their only matchups. 24 Orange has not played 24 Black but they are ranked a little higher.

As PP said, Capital is superior in recruiting so if that is your ultimate goal, stick with Capital.

They are usually better. But even if they aren’t, they played in better tourney brackets which generates more exposure.

Right but if Pride’s recruiting is not established wouldn’t it be better to go with Capital?

Pride is no better. Ask the 2023s about that.

Much depends on what your DD wants out of recruiting. It’s not impossible, but playing for Orange will likely mean not playing at a top college lacrosse program based on Capitals recruiting history with their Orange teams. My suggestion is look at where past Orange players have committed and see if these align with your DDs schools. Number one piece of advice, pick the schools first and lacrosse second.

Go with the best club team your DD can make that will play in the highest brackets, play a tough SoS, can be competitive in those games, and has a history of recruiting success. This assumes playing D1 or high D3 is the goal.
