If things hold true to form from years past understand many of the 20 or so spots have been filled. These players have a good sense of where they stand. If you don’t know by now your DD is more likely grinding it out for 3-5 truly open spots. With over 100 kids trying out there’s less than a 5% chance of a random player making Capital Blue. Set proper expectations with your DDs and have realistic expectations for yourselves. Capital is not going to build a team from scratch based on a 2-3 hour tryout. That’s barely enough time between water breaks to see any meaningful player time for 100+ kids. They already know who the top players are in the incoming freshman class. The reality of the tryout is to finalize the last few spots.
I have a 2030 girl so I don’t really understand how this works. Capital Blue takes 4 or so each from BLC, Pride, Stars, and Next Level? And where do the other 20 or so from their teams go?
In most years, it is 8-10 from Pride, 4-7 from Stars and some 4-6 from other clubs like VaMetro, BLC, MCE ,CavLax, etc for its Blue team. This year is different because BLC is top 8 national team and its entire starting lineup plus a few subs are likely to make Capital Blue. The number of Pride/Stars girls who make CapBlue will likely be determine by how many BLC girls choose Capital vs. a top MD club like Heros, M&D or SW. Also, M&D and Heros both have a couple key players who are from DC. Will be interesting to see if they say or tryout for Capital which would complicate things even more. Most top players who don't make Capital Blue don't take the Cap Orange offer, but stay at previous club or move to another A team (including some in MD) with a decent recruiting rep.
