I read elsewhere the banned substance is trimetazidine, a “micro dose”, whatever that means, from a December sample. Similar uses to melodium.

Considering she’s only 15, I wouldn't jump to conclusions that she was complicit in this. But considering the other two Russian competitors have the same coach/doctor, i imagine they will be under suspicion too.

After her long program earlier this week, I thought she looked unusually winded. Not that slaters often don’t look out of breath after programs but for some reason hers was more noticeable. Her program is unprecedented for female skaters.

anyone in olympic contention should not be given/take a banned substance. If it was the fault of her doctors and/or coach, then they suck and I feel for her to be screwed by them.

If it is weed like others have noted, that is on HER.

If it’s the former, I REALLY hope the doctor and coach would be banned. Her coach has a reputation for questionable practices already and currently trains nearly all the top female skaters in Russia.

What I saw online was that it has something to do with more efficiently using oxygen? So I guess in theory it would improve stamina.

It was a huge risk for them to take, knowing that Russian athletes in particular are under a microscope. I find it hard to believe the benefits of this drug justified the risk of getting caught (not to mention the long term health of the athlete). Maybe this was the high profile case that is needed to really turn the tide (or maybe they’ll learn nothing from it).

My heart breaks for Kamila. No drug can make someone skate like that. She worked so hard her entire childhood to be the best skater I’ve ever seen.

I'm guessing the athletes get generous scholarships to go to these type tiered schools given they're hard core and arguably the best of the best in that sport.

Stanford gives athletic scholarships, but the Ivy League does not. Chloe Kim, Nathan Chen, and Vincent Zhou are not getting scholarships.

Even Stanford only gives athletic scholarships in D1 sports, which does not include figure skating or Big Air freestyle skiing.

I don't understand the whole "ROC in lieu of Team Russia" as a punishment for their doping scandal. It's still a team of Russian athletes. It's not like Russia won't get the glory of their athletes success. No wonder doping is still a problem.

The IOC should have banned Russian athletes from the Olympics altogether. I'm sure individual athletes could have shopped their skills around and found another country to represent, since there seem to be virtually no rules to restrict that kind of thing. Then the athletes could still compete but under a system without (presumably) doping.

Eileen Gu is a penta threat - smart, athletic, Fearless, articulate and gorgeous … she is so pretty but does not look Asian so I don’t really get her references to wanting to see and be representation for Chinese girls …

The mom works at a venture capital company specializing in Chinese companies. Even without her daughter’s fame the mom could easily afford it. Finance salary in sf with one kid.
