What’s going on with the two bills?

Yes. Dumb progressives shuttled out the Federal Shutdown, the Debt Ceiling, Highway Legislation, Infrastructure, and the Social Welfare bill out to December.

All of this has to be taken care of in *checks watch* 7 weeks.

How did you get 7 weeks? The deadline is December 3. We have freaking four weeks. Pelosi keeps saying the vote will happen anytime soon because as day passes, it gets harder and harder to pass that social spending bill.

December 3rd? Well that's news to me. Is that all five bills or just BBB+BIF?

I am wondering what would happen if Youngkin wins next Tuesday. More pressure on the paasage of infrastructure bill or no impact?

Well it should have been passed on Thursday when Biden was in the air. Pelosi and Biden both met directly with the progressives and begged them to let the infrastructure vote through. Nothing.

When Youngkin wins on Tuesday - they can look sad and shocked all they want. Youngkin passed McAuliffe the day after Congress's crap.

Dem voter turnout is down in no small part because the Biden administration has done nothing for us to be excited about!

Inflation at 30 year high. Bungling our own signature infrastructure/social spending bill(s). Gas is insanely high. A supply chain logjam. Their answer to all these problems is that its "transitory." Which is code for, "it'll work itself out."

Sen Mark Warner of VA is pissed and rightfully so

I hope Jayapal got reamed out by the Executive and the Legislature

Federal shutdown is on December 3rd. They already punted it once. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/30/us/politics/senate-spending-bill-government-shutdown.html

I can’t remember what the number is but the House can’t afford to lose more than 3 or 4 votes or the bill won’t even pass their chamber. That drugs letter had 7 Congressional signatures by itself.

Thirteen

Fifteen signatures. They can only afford to lose 3 votes.

At this point they should just kill both bills. There is no reason to pass infrastructure. It’s just a give away to the red states. Let each state pay for their own infrastructure.

Federal shutdown + Debt ceiling + Highway by December 3rd.

The GOP is going to help out on none of these. Basically the Dem leaders are asking vulnerable house dems to vote for the social spending AND debt ceiling increase unilaterally. It’s like they are asking for political suicide.

Incredible.

Something that isn't clear to me - the debt ceiling. That has to be done through budget reconciliation right? Are they legally allowed to put all this stuff - the BBB and the Debt Ceiling under one reconciliation package? And its only one reconciliation a year right -- which means if they don't get it done this December it has to wait til next December?

They can combine the BBB and the debt ceiling in one recon bill. And no the Dems can theoretically do the recon process more than once a year.

But its never been done before? They passed three Acts via Reconciliation in the 2010s and they seem to be going for broke in the 2020s as the ARPA was a reconciliation vote.

Interesting that no one brings up that Biden really used a lot of his firepower just 3 months into office.

+1

The infrastructure bill is 100% deficit spending and is mostly a giveaway to red states.

I mean what is the rush?

They called a vote on Oct. 28th - didn't do it.

Said they were voting on Nov. 2nd - didn't do it.

Promised a vote on Nov. 4th - again nothing.

Now they're rushing for Nov. 5th? For what reason? Election Day is over.

*cough* The House is in recess from the 6th - 14th. Progressives are such idiots. Push everything back to the most heavy off-season the Congress has.
