people keep trying to expand on this trial to apply its "lessons" to other M/F abuse situations and
these Hollywood folk are atypical in some ways. The VF article is interesting but these are public figures
and if they were not, the whole defamation cause of action would not even make sense- if it was
defamation between two people no one knew at all, it would not be a case.

DP. You missed the point of the article. Yes, these are public figures. But does that really give us the right to intrude so far into their personal affairs, particularly in contexts where one of them did not choose to have this all aired publicly? And who are we to hurl such ugly vitriol based on the limited slice we saw at the trial? So because Amber Heard decided to become an actress, she should be subjected to whatever kind of violent language people decide to hurl at her based on what is, ultimately, less than certain evidence of what actually happened between them?

That last part is significant. Anyone who thinks they know with absolute certainty what really went down between Depp and Heard is fooling themselves. None of us really know. Even between the two of them, for any given instance they each had their own experience and perception of it that probably differ wildly at times. To verbally abuse someone based on limited information we have just because they chose a career that puts them in the public eye for certain purposes simply is not okay. It is not appropriate and should not be considered acceptable.

I would not condone name calling and judgmental statements against public figures but I would say AH "put herself out there" when she signed off on the Op Ed... they were supposed to just go their merry ways after their divorce and not speak of each other. AH did rely on her own and the ACLU's lawyers to give her good advice and it seems that none of them saw "defamation" in the future. JD completely put himself in the public eye with this lawsuit. Monica L. did not choose the public eye the way these folks did- she was sort of collaterally damaged by a political war in which she played an infinitesimally small role- should a young woman have a dalliance with an older married man? Probably not, but it happens- just not always in the White House with security, the FBI, the other political party, etc. oops.

How stupid and delusional are they? Ignoring every vile thing he has done and said? For what? So they can worship him?

What's this obsession with Johnny "reciprocating", lol

DP. I do think it's odd that some people have devoted so many hours of their lives to watching the entire trial, making pirate ships to display outside the court (?!?), etc., out of some kind of hero worship for an actor. It would be one thing if he had publicly expressed that he appreciated and valued the fan support (although I would still think that level of investment was a bit extreme), but this is someone who has affirmatively stated that he dislikes his fans and thinks they are leeches. How does someone find that endearing?

What do Stans have to do with the legal process?

If she had won she provided a blueprint for how to lie your ass off and get your SO canceled. She needs psychiatric attention.

I love how many of you are in here pontificating as if anyone gives a shit about your opinion. Anyone who watched that trial from beginning to end knows she was lying her ass off. That should disturb you but apparently the only thing you care about is that she has a vagina. That makes her truthful in your eyes.

Her “mountain of evidence” was completely unconvincing. It was an absolute insult to anyone who has really gone through these things.

I suggest the lot of you Heard supporters seek professional guidance. You are clearly unable to discern a liar right in front of your face. Let me guess, you are all interested in lovely beachfront property on Oklahoma.

It's the same middle aged loser women that are on this board.

Oh, the irony. You might want to take your own advice.

But even with them putting themselves out there, who are we, as the general public, to assume we know the truth of it, let alone to verbally abuse someone based on what we believe to be the truth. For anyone attacking JD or AH, are you really so certain down to your core that your perception of what happened is accurate so as to justify abusing a person like that? What if you’re wrong? What if the person you are abusing is actually the victim?

"The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband," Heard said.

That's her story and she's sticking to it! It was all because of Depp's sway, despite a "mountain of evidence." SMH.

She’s right and I’m heartbroken for her. Depp was abusive and she had every right to write her op Ed and share her experience with an abuser. That she is imperfect as a victim doesn’t negate his abuse. It also doesn’t mean she defamed him. Sad day for women but this is the direction our country is headed in so not a total surprise. Soon you’ll be able to beat and terrify women with impunity.

+1 sad day for women

Oh please.

This is a case where a woman who is desperate for fame saw the value of leveraging the me too movement for her own narcissistic goals. She too advantage of the “believe all women” stance to ruin a man for her own gain.

I have experienced SA myself and am disgusted by her.

She had proof. More than most. Regardless if you believe her, you do understand how this verdict will negatively impact victims? As a supposed survivor of SA, I’d think you’d have some empathy for them, but sounds like you want them to shut up and stay silent.

Most survivors aren’t photoshopping photos to try to make it look like she had injuries. Most aren’t claiming to have a broken nose and going on a TV show with no sign of injury. Putting herself out as a spokesperson for abused women offends me so, so much.

DP. I’ve had a broken nose that left me with nothing but the slightest hint of shadows under my eyes that were easily covered with concealer.

The next day? lol

I can barely get makeup to fully cover my acne scars. I’d really like to know what kind of makeup covers bruises from being punched in the face multiple times…. In HD no less.

According to Amber‘s lawyer, the kind that is released and produced after you allegedly use it

Oh FFS - she didn't say that specific makeup palette brand, she said A MAKEUP PALETTE and showed that one as an example. You psycho K---s will believe anything the internet tells you.

Calm down everyone.

1. The vast majority of people on Earth do not even know these actors, or care about this.

2. Most in the Western world who are interested enough to follow have no strong opinion, other than both actors seem unnecessarily punitive and mentally unstable.

3. The minuscule minority who take more than a passing interest in this mostly agree that the result is fair, given the facts presented, because the facts pertain to defamation and not value judgements on either's character.

The rabid posters catastrophizing about Amber or Johnny are also unwell. You are wasting your life caring about two misfits, people! There are virtuous causes in the world that deserve your outrage, and this is not one of them

I have said this over and over again -- Johnny stans are dumb middle aged bored housewives. Who else are dumb middle-aged bored housewives? Oh, let's see the women looking out their window in the afternoon who call the cops on any black person they see, the same ones who were SO concerned for their children's education and well-being that they voted for Glenn Youngkin in Virginia, etc., etc. I have lost all respect for you K/Bs.

OMG she wore the same dress to court today that she was wearing when she filed for her TRO and called TMZ on herself and at her last trial. She’s a certified psycho.

Sure, sure, what ever makes you feel better!

Did anyone speculate what the issue was on the verdict form as far as damages that needed fixing?

It's you who believes any cheap excuse you hear from your twisted sister.
"A make up palette" wasn't really mainstream at the time and if she was using the one that existed at the time, she would know the brand.
