Police officers testified that they saw no marks on her when she claimed to have been beaten. The make up that seemed to have worked miracles didn't exist when she claimed to have used it.

Where were the recordings of him being abusive? She recorded herself.

How could the jury believe anything she said?

Actually the jury found that she was telling the truth in the count where they ruled against Depp.

“ Heard, 36, also filed a countersuit against Depp, 58, seeking $100 million in damages and saying his legal team falsely accused her of fabricating claims against Depp. The jury awarded Heard $2 million in damages in that countersuit.”

So she didn’t lie but defamed him by speaking out. Not sure how anyone supporting this verdict can call themselves a feminist.

The verdict doesn't make sense.

Huh? Do you think when someone is accused of lying it means they lie with each and every breath?

I was hoping they'd give each one $20 in damages and call it a day.

do people think that AH has 10 million $? Will she try to appeal?

The lawyers will negotiate a settlement out of court.

Juries do weird stuff. My mom was an alternate on a jury once where they had video of the guy striking his girlfriend who then fell and dropped their baby, who was injured. My mom was shocked they voted to acquit (she was dismissed but the clerk had promised to call her with the verdict later).

It does if you look deeper than the headline. That Amber’s story is a Hoax was found to be true by the jury. What they found untrue was the characterization of the two police calls and Heard “roughing up the place.”

She will file a notice of appeal, and odds are they will settle before the appeal is finalized because he's never going to collect it from her anyway and he doesn't want to risk having the judgment overturned.

people keep trying to expand on this trial to apply its "lessons" to other M/F abuse situations and
these Hollywood folk are atypical in some ways. The VF article is interesting but these are public figures
and if they were not, the whole defamation cause of action would not even make sense- if it was
defamation between two people no one knew at all, it would not be a case.

Anonymous wrote:Heard said in a statement she is "heartbroken" over the verdict.

"The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband," Heard said.

That's her story and she's sticking to it! It was all because of Depp's sway, despite a "mountain of evidence." SMH.

She’s right and I’m heartbroken for her. Depp was abusive and she had every right to write her op Ed and share her experience with an abuser. That she is imperfect as a victim doesn’t negate his abuse. It also doesn’t mean she defamed him. Sad day for women but this is the direction our country is headed in so not a total surprise. Soon you’ll be able to beat and terrify women with impunity.

Very bad decision today for women. Very bad. Even if she was exaggerating. He did not need to sue her. It was vindictiveness.
+1 sad day for women

He had every right to sue her. Sorry she was a liar and hurt the me too narrative. Be angry with Heard. She cried wolf and ultimately lost.

Who are all the people outside the courthouse booing Amber Heard and cheering for JD with a pirate ship no less. Who are these people? Do they really think JD cares or reciprocates? How stupid and delusional are they? Ignoring every vile thing he has done and said? For what? So they can worship him?

DP. You missed the point of the article. Yes, these are public figures. But does that really give us the right to intrude so far into their personal affairs, particularly in contexts where one of them did not choose to have this all aired publicly? And who are we to hurl such ugly vitriol based on the limited slice we saw at the trial? So because Amber Heard decided to become an actress, she should be subjected to whatever kind of violent language people decide to hurl at her based on what is, ultimately, less than certain evidence of what actually happened between them?

That last part is significant. Anyone who thinks they know with absolute certainty what really went down between Depp and Heard is fooling themselves. None of us really know. Even between the two of them, for any given instance they each had their own experience and perception of it that probably differ wildly at times. To verbally abuse someone based on limited information we have just because they chose a career that puts them in the public eye for certain purposes simply is not okay. It is not appropriate and should not be considered acceptable.

As I said from the beginning, both are liars. Both are troubled.
