Nobody called out Q1s beating up Q4s in BY, nobody will be calling out August playing against July kids under SY. |
This is exactly what was going on. Clubs would dual roster the August kids with parents that were looking to play down. Then gradually ween them off the idea of playing down. Players would play league up on the team that was their grade. Then they'd play in tournamants for their grade team and with the grade below them team. |
5% of kids played misaligned -- an average of 1 per team. Deal with it. |
Probably another 5% misligned because May-July kids went to school late. Yup, it will be fine. |
This would also address the college coach issue because you'd be practicing and playing league games with the correct grade team. The only time you'd play down is tournaments and probabaly Sophmore (when you're a Junior) year showcases. Technically you could play 2 league games in the same day. But usually age groups are one after the other. It would be difficult to do 2x back to back games. Also your ECNL profile would show the correct graduating year and team. |
This a bizarrely specific scenario that seems entirely made up especially when remembering how few players were off grade. Clubs and leagues are saying they actually want players on grade and are driving this, not parents. |
Dual rostering is 100% why you never heard of Aug birthday players playing down before 2017. |
Except players playing on age don't need to dual roster to play up. Clubs are doing what they can to get half their players down an age group, that is their sole focus now. |
I get it. You're countering 1 scenario with your own. That's OK, here's the thing. The star misaligned player who plays on AGE need not have to do sit on the bench on the older team because they play at a high level club and will have access to college recruiting -- BUT they might. That's plausible because everything is CASE-BY-CASE. |
Only Aug and maybe Sept birthdays might play down a grade and it all depends on when their school started. It would be difficult to have an entire team of dual roster players. |
I get they will see college coaches at playoffs but what about showcases - U15 goes to maybe 2 -3 showcases a year outside of playoffs. U16 goes to 3-5 showcases a year outside of playoffs.... the Aug baby who didn't start with their birth year but will start playing down will still miss out on additional showcases. I think its a miss understanding that only starters get recruited - subs get recruited also and starters on a balanced team rotate depending on opponents (size mix matches and strategies dictate who starts when). |

And heres the proof. August birthdays were dual rostered pre 2017. They played up with their grade in school team for league games but also played on a grade down team for tournamants sometimes.
https://gasoccerforum.com/thread/2538/question-dual-roster "Our child played up every year until U14 when we held them at age. The club got around this by rostering at their age and club passing up each game. He played some games or tournaments at age dependingon who they played. I don't know if this is still allowed with the new age rule." |
Showcases will be by grade. |
No they wont. If clubs dual roster Aug birthdays the end result is playing on the team with players your grade in league. But also maybe playing down Junior year at Sophmore showcases. |
| Dual rostering would also address 9th grade in high school players on 8th grade teams because clubs would transition these players to the 9th grade club team before high school. |
