Meghan and Prince Harry are moving to the U.S./Canada - OFFICIAL

I think one of the most important points has been stated for other reasons in this thread, and that is that Harry is not in the succession line. His role as “spare” basically ended the moment George was born. It’s not up to he and Meghan to carry the Monarchy, or to gain favour for it... that’s up to the succession line, who will positions of “rule”.

Certainly he has been a prominent member, but now there is the natural shift as normal life goes on. He has helped Kate and Will through their early years of marriage and child rearing, and now it’s his turn to look after his life. I’m not sure why this comes as such a surprise to everyone.

Plain and simple, Harry and Will hold very different positions, and that seems to get clouded as they’re brothers.

So Harry's new role is ... house husband. He's a SAHD now but doesn't even have the baby who is who-knows-where. Seems even more pointless than being the spare.

He’s at work. Does your DH take the baby on his trips for work?

And what about next week?

I love what Stephen Marche (Toronto resident) wrote in The New Yorker:
Her life has been like a Hallmark movie in reverse: she had a great life that made perfect sense, right until the wedding with the scion of one of the oldest families in Europe. Is it any wonder that she’s come to believe that her story can only have a happy ending if it goes backward? There’s a moral of a kind here, unknown to Hallmark: it is infinitely better to be a working actress in Toronto than a Duchess in Buckingham Palace.

Being rich and a full time stay at home parent sounds pretty good to me, and to tons of people on DCUM. If it makes him happy and Meghan happy, that's all that matters.

I’m sure they have lots to do to get their foundation up and running. Why is this so hard to understand?

OMG either read the thread or keep your comments to yourself. Harry's high-class family currently has three cheaters, a homewrecker, and a pedophile in their ranks.

Oh and btw the future Queen is also a low-class commoner with parents who run a party supply store and were former flight attendants.

Right? Charles and Andrew are supposed to be high class?! Their lives wouldn't have been out of place on Jerry Springer back in the day (just with more money and more inbreeding).

Bet Meghan and Harry will be booed loudly at the next large event. He never had that experience before Meghan.

From watching the Queen on Netflix, it sure sounds as her sister has been miserable her whole life. It sure looks like the Queen was manipulative and destructive to her sister as much as she was destructive herself. Is that what Harry should be? Good brother. I think Harry is mad that Will cheated on Kate, and had enough of the history repeating itself. Plus, Brits are very racist and right leaning right now. Nobody needs to put up with that crap. Plus, what's it to me? Bunch of people who can't pronounce their words fully!

Agreed. These points are getting lost in all the hatred zinging through this thread. Harry's job is done - it's now up to William and Kate to run the show. They must be the focus as they have two future monarchs in their household and it seems like they are done having children.

Further, Charles said that its a priority to slim down the Crown's dependents. If you want to slim down, you need to give people an off-ramp to establish independent lives and careers. Once you're past the age of 40, the opportunities are largely gone.

The path Harry is forging right now is going to affect William's family. He has two younger kids who will need an off-ramp to independent lives, along with his grandkids. William has an interest in Harry/Meghan being treated fairly and maintaining a positive working relationship with the Buckingham Palace.

They are being described as “royal pariahs” now.

I’m worried that the Queen’s health will suffer with the horrible crises of Andrew and Megxit together with her husband’s very fragile health.

They have three future monarchs. Charlotte is directly in line to the throne due to the change in succession laws. Realistically she'll probably never get there.

I totally agree with the rest on slimming down the monarchy - if you're going to slim you have to let it happen.

I heard a segment on NPR as well as a lot of other reporting and definitely got the impression that there are some courtiers that really had it out for Harry and Meghan, leaked their plans to the press and Harry and Meghan decided to go ahead with their announcement. If the rest of the royals don't like then they need to get their people in line.

Thank God for the good news of Kate’s pregnancy! Nothing like a new baby to cheer people up!
