First day drop off -- MD tags

Well in light of the new information that DC is and HAS been using PG county emergency response teams for any fire or emergency issue's east of the river on consistent basis, to make up for the lack of city emergency employee's I feel the people in this thread need to shut their mouths.

Ward 9, baby. It's an honorary part of DC.

Are you referring to MoCo, as that is the countythatborders the JKLMM schools. I doubt very many people would drive form PG Cty through downtown to get uptown in DC rush hour for schools. And then turn around and drive downtown, pay to park, and go to their office to work. That's a lot of driving and waste of time.

The people saying "mind your own business" seem to believe that the vast, vast majority of MD plates can be explained by good reason - MD caregivers and parents lying on their car registration.

Conversely, some people on here are saying that up to 50% of the cars at their schools have MD plates. This is not too far off from what we see at our school.

Does the first group of posters really believe that 50% of kids in a school have a valid reason for having out of state plates? 50%?? Or do you think the second group is exaggerating their 50% statistic?

NP Here - Actually, you seem to be assuming that 50% of car riders = 50% of students, which is clearly not true of any school. So let's assume a school of 500. 100 of them get dropped off by car as opposed to walking or (if they are bigger kids) riding Metro. So, yes, I could see how 50 out of 500 kids could have a valid reason for MD plates, whether it is grandparents or nannies driving to school, or folks who never changed their plates for whatever reason.

That makes no sense. Now if DC had been using those trucks, without permission, in violation of the law, and without reimbursing MD then you'd have a point. Can you be this dense? Please tell me you are trolling. Pretty please?

You know that DC is desperately scraping the bottom of the barrel when they need to call in EMS reinforcements from PG. Many PG services are at a level comparable to where DC was in the Barry era.

Sad case for us citizens.

Didn't Jack Johnson and his wife, who was on the county council, steal money from the county government? I think she even hid some of it in her bra when the FBI came for them. Pathetic.

It's called mutual aid and DC does the same for PG when needed. Nice try, Barvetta. How did you afford that Land Rover working at HHS?

If you feel DCPS isn't doing enough, or more likely isn't doing anything at all, contact your councilmember. Take pictures. Document your reports to DCPS. Then testify at the DCPS oversight hearing next Spring. Hopefully this thread will be revived around that time to remind everyone. There is no reason for DC to subsidize "The County." According to OSSE's Web site, "DC public schools are required to report suspected cases of residency fraud to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) immediately." If your neighborhood principal isn't doing that, tell the public!

Due to this thread, I've decided to start a volunteer parent patrol, to catch these residence cheaters! But how far from the school should we patrol? Our dcps is only about five blocks from the MD border. Should we stop at the border? What if those residence cheaters are walking in? Or taking the s 2?

I wouldn't go there PP. How many DC council members, mayors, DC pols have been forced to wear prison orange.

Lots. And the next one is likely to be DC councilmember Vincent "Orange Jumpsuit" himself. But the level of pay to play in PG has been in a class by itself, to the point that reputable retailers and developers for a long time refused to do business there. Wayne Currie and especially Jack Johnson and his infamously brassiered missus were the symbols of this dysfunctional culture. The fact that a lot of cronies and political supporters of Marion Barry slithered across the state line into PG once Tony Williams became DC mayor didn't help the county's governance either. The current county executive deserves much credit for trying to clean up the sleaze culture but the kleptocracy is still pretty ingrained, witness the current PG school board member who has been charged with school lunch fraud. Speaking of Mayor Williams, I would say that DC's reform politics is about 15-20 years ahead of PG's. There's a substantial part of the DC electorate that won't tolerate the crony politics of the past, came to revile Barry, turned against Gray, etc. For years in PG, politicos hucksters like Curry and Johnson were able to get voters to look the other way by building big patronage networks and by shamelessly demagoguing issues like perceived disrespect of PG, playing on resentments and the obsession with putting the county "on the map" (Ex., the ridiculous "gorgeous Prince George's campaign"). All the while, services like schools and police were going in the crapper. As mentioned, PG is starting to get better, but changing the culture is hard and takes time.

Start with the low-hanging fruit, like the lazy morons/cheaters who drive right up to the front door with impunity. Most criminals aren't that intelligent, but they usually are brazen.

Your principal should be able to identify these people, but apparently looks away. Tell OSSE s/he doesn't give a damn. Then when they don't do anything, testify before the DCPS oversight hearing in the Spring. After that hopefully you'll get a more responsive principal who cares about fully performing her/his duties to properly run a school.
