Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Are capris even in style anymore?

I'm a size 18. What would you have me wear in the summer?

I am a middle age woman, perhaps an “old age” woman in some of your minds.

I wear capris all the time and couldn’t care less what you think about that.

I am not trying to make a fashion statement when I leave the house to run errands, go to social events, or to do something I want to do.

Believe it or not, some of us prefer comfort to being “fashion forward."

Hate all you want. I will continue to wear capris for all you judgy women to talk about.

Fellow size 18 here, and based on the previous thread I think we are supposed to be in Muumuus. Aloha!

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.

I don't care what you think. That's one of the best parts of being middle-aged.

Anonymous wrote:You know, I think women wear capri pants b/c they absolutely KNOW shorts look terrible on them and so they figure capris are a summery compromise. At least they cover up the cellulite and varicose veins (and I'm speaking for myself here as much as for anyone else). Shorts are worse, IMO.

+ 1 Bingo. I won't wear shorts. So it's capris or capri leggings if really hot. Sorry to offend you but I want to be comfortable.

Woo Hoo. I couldn’t agree more. Let’s hear it for us middle-aged, capris-wearing, couldn’t-care-less-what-you-think women!!!

Yes, I'm a couple of years away from saying screw it and living in caftans.

Although I suppose the OP would be okay with caftans, as long as they're not the dreaded capris.

I'm a big old woman too. I wear flowing, longish skirts. They're cooler than shorts, capris, or long pants. Always use something to prevent thigh chafing. In a long skirt, you can even go commando, for full breeze effect. A straight cotton half slip will save your modesty if you get caught in a whirlwind. And that's still cooler than pants.

I don't think kitten heels do anything to make capris look better. Delicate little heels with pants that make most women look stumpy and bottom heavy is not a contrast you want.

Seriously though, I don't really care what others think. I wear capris instead of shorts because my legs are covered in spider veins. I don't want to wear skirts and dresses like pp said.

I had those too! I also had wool walking shorts in every conceivable color and wore them with matching tights and penny loafers and I wore them to afternoon tea at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.

Pretty damn cute if I do say so myself.

Hey young fashionistas, virtually every pant length is in fashion at all of the design houses. As long as I can purchase crisp looking capris at Saks and Neimans, I'm going to. I look great in my capris and my expensive shoes. Eat your heart out ?

Good luck finding normal length pants right now! Capris are it.

I cannot believe my thread is still going on five years later. Will this be my legacy to the world?

I am older, wiser... and now live in an area where women are too fashionable for capris.

Happy 5 year anniversary, ye olde Capri thread!

I'm going to go order some right now, in celebration of the mid-calf!

You being a Bing user is perfectly in line with you being a capri wearer.
