If I'm on a jury I'm giving a LEO a LOT of leeway. I appreciate the police. But I've seen a video of a cop shooting a fleeing suspect in the back. Murders by cops need to stop. |
There are circumstances where shooting a fleeing suspect in the back is justified and legal. |

This came out yesterday, more than unsettling |
No, fleeing suspects need to be stopped. |
Here is the inspector that advanced prospective recruits that didn't pass the NYPD psychological exam. ![]() "Inspector Anderson was transferred to the candidate assessment division in 2022 and became known for his eagerness to recruit more officers of color into the department, according to law enforcement officials who know him." "Many recruits fail the psychological exam not because of serious mental disorders but because they appear inauthentic or overthink their answers, according to Kevin Sheerin, a lawyer and a retired New York police captain who has written at length about the department’s hiring process on his website." |
OP: why are you posing this question in a blog populated by successful, law abiding professional folk? These people don't have a lot of brushes with the law. They might get the random speeding or parking ticket, but they generally aren't targeted by LE for harassment.
I'd like to see if you have the guts to ask this question to vulnerable populations who maybe experience more targeted harassment at the hands of law enforcement. Come back and tell us how it went. |
My mom had a neighbor who was shot by the police running home during the Detroit riots. He was 14 years old was just walking to the store, got scared started running. He heard someone yelling at him and had no idea it was the police. He lived but with permanent damage. |
DP. Isn’t it that much more compelling to understand why DC liberal elite dislike law enforcement, especially since they are not affected as you posit? |
That's tragic. And that was something like 55 years ago. Times have changed! My uncle was a Detroit cop during that time and if you mouthed off to a cop or ran from the cops you are definitely going to get an ass kicking. If you mess with a dog too much, you deserve to get bit. |
This overt bias is why. Thanks for bubbling it up. |
Most of the "vulnerable population" (whatever that is) lives in high crime areas and has little tolerance for criminals. You probably won't like their answers. And social just warriors and angry little people posting on Reddit are not representative of actual normal people. |
Except kids have been shot playing at parks, people have been shot sleeping in bed. It hasn't changed, or if it has changed it's not nearly enough. |
So, if the system isn't 100% perfect, we need to completely get rid of it? |
If you are a police officer now and you had friends/family who were cops back in the day, you would have a different opinion. You are basing your opinion on what you have gleaned from the media. Do you know how the media works? They love sensationalism that is in no way an accurate representation of real life. |
Covering your eyes, ears, and mouth doesn't change the facts of reality. |
