I don’t like the culture of law enforcement that seems to create opportunity to avoid taking responsibility for mistakes and protecting those who abuse power.
I have no issue with people who are doing their jobs according to the laws and system as it exists. There are things about the system that I think could be changed. Calling for individuals to be punished when they are following process and laws is stupid. |
I interned for a prosecutor while in law school and met a lot of cops. I helped a prosecutor run a training for police on proper Miranda rights. And they kept asking questions that made it very clear they intended to lie and didn't respect anything we were trying to teach at all. And to be clear I was in their "team".
Basically, because I've met them and they don't have respect for rights. |
Yeah, I'm not going to get into my deeper feelings here, but my story is basically "I don't like cops, because I've met cops." |
Because they are inherently untrustworthy. It’s a personality trait that allows them to be good at policing but bad news for anyone else that they encounter. I am perfectly willing and able to protect myself from dishonest people who may harm me so therefore I stay away from cops. |
I used to work at a cafe, and the cops would come in, cut the line, then chitchat with me. They made the most godawful, racist, ablest, hateful "jokes".
The firefighters and EMTs didn't do that. |
Was that really painted in the street?! |
Are we abolishing qualified immunity for everyone or just those you don’t like? |
Who else gets qualified immunity? I thought that was just a law enforcement thing. |
Government officials. |
did you just fly in from mars? |
Such as judges and prosecutors etc? I agree with that, we should abolish qualified immunity for them too. Was there some other type of government official you were thinking of? |
Judges have judicial immunity. Think governors, mayors, etc. |
Agree. But our view points out the absolute stupidity of supporting BLM’s defund the police movement. If you want better policing, provide more training; but training costs money. Defunding the police guarantees worse outcomes for everyone. And yet: D.C. went along with it for years. I STILL see idiotic DMV residents with BLM signs on their lawns/in apartment windows. |
Yes. |
Here is additional background on the “DEFUND THE POLICE” public street mural in D.C. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/944584/dc-mayor-wont-say-whether-city-will-remove-defund-the-police-street-painting/ |
