Why do you dislike law enforcement?

I imagine that the psych patient has been disarmed by the time you have them. Wonder who disarmed them?

Our department has a social worker but they expect us to respond to calls with them for this exact reason. They haven’t been to school for LE, and we haven’t been to school for psych.

It's not 1950. Try calling 911 today and it's unlikely they'll even bother responding. "File a report online." Or if they do show up, they aren't there to pursue a crime, they're just going to write a report and then get back on their phone scrolling social media. They are grossly overpaid stenographers.

Meanwhile, their bootlickers will rationalize them doing nothing all day with, "They're pursuing important stuff and solving big crimes!"

No, they're not. They're literally sitting on their asses.

Every word before and after the word “bootlicker” gets nullified. Seek help.

Keep in mind that doctors kill a lot more people every year than police do.

Hate how they F up arrests and evidence for high profile homicide cases.

Like get it together when you go in off a call tip. Retain your training. Know the law. Don’t contaminate evidence FFs.

I have disarmed patients in the emergency room. I've taken several knives and a gun off of patients. That's besides the point.

Cops shoot many, many people in the community who are having a mental health crisis and are not armed. Cops are poorly trained to handle psych patients and too arrogant to admit that they aren't trained correctly.

Sadly, as a foreigner on a visa, I've had to deal with abusive border control officers at certain border checkpoints coming into the US. I've witnessed them make unfounded accusations that are later reversed by their supervisors, and I've witnessed them screaming in people's faces, while they're holding young children and babies.

So you need to understand that certain psychological profiles which thrive on domination and bullying tend to flock to these professions. It's not just the decent, upright men and women who desire to serve their communities, saves people's lives, and catch "bad guys". In some of these people's minds, "bad guys" can mean whoever doesn't look like them. And in certain cases, they don't care who they bully, they get a thrill out of it, and are unleashed on whoever their superiors decide can be mistreated. Sadly, in these benighted times, there are a lot of people that suddenly seem to be OK to treat in an inhumane manner.

I will never forget when I was a kid and 60 minutes (I think) did a feature about a lawsuit brought by a man that was refused a role as a police officer due to his IQ test. It was determined that he was too smart to be a patrol officer. The police department said that much of the time of a police officer is spent idle and that would be difficult for a smart person. I've never forgotten that. Also, I had a friend whose husband was in law enforcement, she told me that officers swarm to pull-overs/standoffs/other situations because they have FOMO. It's a shame when people view their jobs as outlets for excitement. The rest of us suffer.

As a LEO I agree, and I know what the problem is. The problem is that people are promoted into these roles by way of longevity, not by way of merit (to an extent) or desire (to an extent); most become detectives because they want to get off the road. You can’t hire out for this position, even on the state level: everyone is a beat cop first and works their way up.

I think, and it’s been proven at Western Michigan University (I’ll have to find the study) not only that women make better detectives in general, but also that if there was a way to create sub-departments in local and state law enforcement (federal too, I’m sure) where you could hire contractors who have attended college for training in this specific field (JUST solving crimes), more passionate and experienced people would be solving crimes.

The issue is these folks would also need to be trained as police officers, because in the field, they investigate and conduct interviews in dangerous locations and in situations where people are dangerous, and they need the ability to not only protect themselves, but also make arrests when needed. Nobody knows how to create a happy medium, so until someone does, this is the way it has to be.

Many isn't a number or any quantifiable statistic.

So you disarmed several people actively wielding a knife or a gun? I doubt it.

How long ago was this? Was Pluto still a planet? Things change.

LE OP, got a question for ya. Why are you on DCUM posing a question like this? Why DCUM, lol?

You ought to go to a primarily AA blog or POC blog and ask this question, if you really want to get your answer.

Heh.

Most people posting on this forum are Democrats and are obviously extremely biased and going along with whatever the media or social media is currently pushing. Right now they are focused on Trump, and rightfully so. And of course you have very vocal trolls making a lot of noise.

They have literally no idea what police officers actually do on a daily basis and base their opinion on cherry picked videos. I recently retired and I know several officers who should have shot suspects but didn't. I've also taken far more verbal abuse than I've ever dished out. But of course you never see those videos. I honestly think that the general public would lose interest in law enforcement if they just did a ride along. On a busy eve shift you can spend the entire shift writing reports, not exactly exciting.

Well cops complain incessantly about attending any of training because they are self proclaimed experts. They are actually very good considering the low level of training they receive. It's a lot better than it used to be though. It's a cultural problem, no doubt.

They do not shoot "many, many people who are having a mental health crisis and are not armed."
