The Queen and Wallis at Duke's funeral

Very nice coat and brooch.

I like the coat and brooch as well but the Queen's head covering is bizarre. Perhaps it's the black and white photo but she looks like she's wearing scarf wrapped around her hair? I'm guessing it's more of a turban style hat IRL but it is very odd looking in this photo.

Hmm, turns out even the Queen could make fashion missteps when wearing fleeting trends. Imagine!

I think it is a turban style hat; she wore some of those in the 60's/70's. I rather like it here. I wonder if her veil is pulled up? Are maybe she wasn'twearing one?

I think this is a great outfit but looks too tight on her arms. Looks a bit uncomfortable. She’s very beautiful though.

I don’t care for the 3/4 length sleeves.

In general, or just this jacket? I have several 3/4-sleeve shirts and jackets, and my spouse has expressed that he doesn't really get the look or like the 3/4 sleeves.

DP but as a personal matter I hate 3/4 length sleeves because I feel like I'm always either too cold and wish they were longer, or too hot and just want to rip them off. Also, they are often designed to be closely fitted and in stiffer fabrics this can be quite uncomfortable.

One reason I kind of liked Meghan's cape dress as a practical solution is that it would allow you to tuck your arms away if it was cold or drafty but the dress was not so close fitting as to be uncomfortable if it was warm (or if you started sweating after hours of walking/sitting/standing for the cameras). It kind of seems like the perfect solution to a funeral in mid-September in weather that isn't exactly hot but also not cool enough to make a full on coat very comfortable.

So as some pps here requested, someone started a separate MM fashion thread. Except it was swiftly deleted. From what I saw, there was no objectionable posts in that thread.

WTF?

She is not a allowed topic of discussion. It never goes well so she has been forbidden.

It's annoying. The only reason there is so much discussion of her in this thread, and so much discussion of H&M in the King Charles thread, is that people very much want to discuss them. I mean, not my website but it just seems silly. I just want to talk dresses, is that so wrong?!

Huh, I wonder if this is why some of my posts to the King Charles thread have not been allowed but others have? Like maybe if I use her full name it won't be allowed to post but if I say MM or H&M or am talking about someone else altogether I am? At first I thought I'd been blocked but I can post elsewhere. It was weird and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with that thread specifically.

I LOVE her turban. If anyone could pull off a turban, it’s the Queen. I don’t think I would prefer that style on say Kate or Sophie.

This looks nice but is also incredibly dull and lacking in personality. This was during the phase when she was just dressing in neutral tones, wearing almost exclusively inoffensive but bland day dresses with matching accessories and trying to keep her mouth shut. It looks nice but is unexciting. People who like her best like this are the same people who constantly compare her to Kate unfavorably. Kate is great at this kind of thing because it's her actual job. Meghan can play this role for a time but it's not actually who she is, which is why ultimately this tiny box people put her in started to feel too tight.

People can criticize stuff like the bright green outfit all they want but you can really see her personality in it -- those photos of the cape flying out over her shoulder while she looks right at the camera with the hat perfectly angled over her face? It's a fashion moment, and the fact that the dress is not perfectly tailored doesn't really matter. It's not about the dress fitting perfectly. It's about the color and the lines it creates to make a really exciting and appealing photographable moment. She wore it right around the time that they decided to move to the US and I remember seeing it and thinking "wow she must be happy to be getting free" and it made me more sympathetic to her. That's skill on her part. It very different from the kind of skill Kate or the Queen used in their clothes. But it's still skill.

We disagree on that. I think the olive green dress looks rich and calmly self-assured.

Everything you say about the bright green outfit would have just as true if it did fit properly in the torso.
.

Interesting I love the olive outfit, including the hat. Very appropriate but interesting cut and flattering to her figure.

+1. I like the olive look a lot!

Me, too, and I usually love MM in her bright colors

I love it! With that coat, I was thinking how mod she looks.

Ah- Jeff posted a note today that MM is not allowed bc any discussion of her totally takes over a thread. It’s on the DCUM homepage.

Apparently the hat and dress were a homage to the Queen: https://people.com/royals/meghan-markle-wears-black-version-of-dress-from-queen-elizabeth-92nd-birthday-to-funeral/

The blue 2018 version was fine; the funeral ensemble is atrocious. She looks like she's trying to be Jessica Lange in American Horror Story: Coven. I think she or her stylist was trying to glamorize the outfit with the gloves but it just ended up looking witchy.

I think she looks classic and appropriate. I could see this looking witchy on someone else but I think she pulls it off.

She looked fine in both versions of the cape dress. "Coven" and "witchy" are strong words. I can respect that some ppl don't like the look, but think pp was rather harsh in her judgment.
