FCPS NEW SUPERINTENDENT : Michelle Reid

Anonymous
I don’t know enough about Dr. Reid to form an opinion yet, but I don’t see how any of this is her fault. I will cheer for her and wish her success because it is success for all our kids.

However, I *loathe* this school board. I cannot wait to vote them out.

Also, unlike Brabrand, she can speak coherently and eloquently and seemed to really connect with the kids. Brabrand really lacks that ability to connect with people. Looking forward to seeing what she can do for us!

No idea what you're talking about. Brabrand was hired in large part because he was viewed as empathetic and good at schmoozing. He was very popular with FCPS staff in his early years.

Eventually, he got flummoxed after being kicked around by the School Board for years, and this may well happen to Reid over time although they'll treat her with more respect at first because she's new and a woman.

Yeah, if you don't know what I'm talking about when comparing their ability to connect, then you probably have no social skills yourself. Just watch the Reid video and watch any video Brabrand has ever put out and you'll see the difference.

OMG just because you don't like the school board doesn't mean she's not going to be good. You right-wing loonies are out of control.

You're judging this on what? One picture? one appearance? Stop judging women on their looks.

Sometimes the appearance reflects the personality. Dr. Reid she reminds me of my former neighbor who pretended to be friendly while she was a total crazy, provoking person. I just hope this will not be the case of the new FCPS captain.

What happened last night was an embarrassing spectacle, with most of the School Board members making it very clear that they care less about our kids’ education than making sure they constantly check off the boxes needed to keep them in good standing with the special interest groups, whether it’s the Fairfax NAACP, Pride Liberation, or the “equity”-obsessed types who dominate the FCDC and control the endorsements for School Board races.

I challenge anyone to watch Abrar Omeish’s rambling speech last night and not come away saying to themselves “WTF is this silly narcissist talking about and what does it have to do with FCPS?” The only saving grace was Pekarsky muttering “oh boy” on a hot mic as Omeish launched into her lengthy spiel.

+1

However, I am not sure I would take you on your challenge to watch Abrar Omeish perform on her monologue for approximately twenty minutes - the first part of it…

Some members of the community who were addressing the School Board were cut off at the exact completion of their allocated two minutes, even though they hadn’t completed their message. However, the School Board allowed Ms. Omeish to talk without any restrain for about ten times that amount of time. In the future, there should be a time limit to speakers like Ms. Omeish given the tight meeting agenda (weren’t some items postponed due to the lack of time?).

We tuned in from home to listen to EVERYONE speak, at the same time that others needed to go home at a decent time, especially students who were at the meeting on a school night, while some parents needed to be home earlier to put their young ones to bed. Perhaps group pictures, along with Ms. Omeish’s lengthy soliloquy could have been scheduled for the end of the meeting.

Will we find out who the other candidates were?

Not a chance. Unless they out themselves, which won't happen.

No. This hiring process needs confidentiality. They are pretty much guaranteed to already be superintendents. It erodes trust with the public to find out your leader was looking elsewhere.

You are a misogynistic DICK. Go home, Brandon.

So you missed the part where the folks trying the hardest to take down Dr. Reid and scare her away were the left-wingers like Sujatha Hampton, Karen Keys Gamarra, Vanessa Hall, and Jennifer Adeli.

Are any of those people posting on this board? No, it's a bunch of people whining about how much they hate the school board. I DON'T CARE. Just shut up and give this very accomplished, smart, ambitious woman a chance. Stop tearing down someone you know nothing about just because other people - school board, NAACP, I don't care who - have a political agenda. Right or left, I don't care, give this woman a chance.

If that wing of the SB is upset, then I'm already inclined to root for Reid. I'm sure they'll carry on their neverending crusade of whining regardless of the issue, so little to see there...

So FCPS hires a woman as superintendent but the school board and NAACP stage student walk-outs and rant about her experience? This county is going to be in the gutter if that school board remains in office.

Yet didn’t the school board choose her as a finalist? It really is a mess.

The student walkouts are always a joke. They couldn’t care less. It’s an opportunity to skip class and post some social media content. The organizers of this are such clowns.

I fear for Dr. Reid when she comes to fullybrealize that she’s not working in a small, generally progressive, affluent Seattle suburban district any longer. Fairfax may not be Loudoun, but it is very divided politically and the current School Board (preening, narcissistic, and more concerned with looking good than doing right) is a primary driver of the wedge.
