Since I don’t know Dr. Reid at present I have a much more favorable opinion about her than I do of the current School Board. What happened last night was an embarrassing spectacle, with most of the School Board members making it very clear that they care less about our kids’ education than making sure they constantly check off the boxes needed to keep them in good standing with the special interest groups, whether it’s the Fairfax NAACP, Pride Liberation, or the “equity”-obsessed types who dominate the FCDC and control the endorsements for School Board races. I challenge anyone to watch Abrar Omeish’s rambling speech last night and not come away saying to themselves “WTF is this silly narcissist talking about and what does it have to do with FCPS?” The only saving grace was Pekarsky muttering “oh boy” on a hot mic as Omeish launched into her lengthy spiel.
+1 However, I am not sure I would take you on your challenge to watch Abrar Omeish perform on her monologue for approximately twenty minutes - the first part of it… Some members of the community who were addressing the School Board were cut off at the exact completion of their allocated two minutes, even though they hadn’t completed their message. However, the School Board allowed Ms. Omeish to talk without any restrain for about ten times that amount of time. In the future, there should be a time limit to speakers like Ms. Omeish given the tight meeting agenda (weren’t some items postponed due to the lack of time?). We tuned in from home to listen to EVERYONE speak, at the same time that others needed to go home at a decent time, especially students who were at the meeting on a school night, while some parents needed to be home earlier to put their young ones to bed. Perhaps group pictures, along with Ms. Omeish’s lengthy soliloquy could have been scheduled for the end of the meeting.
